The usual cadre of ignorant prominent conservatives is urging us to support of Whole Foods because left-wingers are boycotting the overpriced gourmet food chain since CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed against ObamaCare in the Wall Street Journal. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for the guy. What goes around in his store’s behavior, comes around, even in organics.

But, unlike them, I look beneath the surface of silly, shallow talking points and principle-free partisan knee-jerking. And I’m not upset that Whole Foods is being boycotted. In fact, I love it. It’s a great episode in poetic justice for a store chain that helps fund and promote jihad and anti-Semitic/anti-Israel radio programming. And now they’re getting what they deserve . . . from their own crazy ideologue.
Yes, John Mackey and his store are now getting a taste of their own medicine–the very orthodoxy they practice against Israel is now being practiced against him.
A story I broke on this site documents how Whole Foods refuses to carry Israeli olive oil. I documented how the store has, instead, chosen to carry, vigorously promote, and subsidize Palestinian olive oil made by extremists who support Islamic terrorism. The olive oil, Canaan Fair Trade olive oil, sends its profits to fund scholarships at An-Najah University (and even worse “schools”), where the majority of the student body is in HAMAS and recruits for HAMAS, and where official school displays glorify the homicide bombing of innocent civilians at Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem, and mock its blown-up victims.

Has she ever commented at all against Christians? I read her site, and she’s written many, many pro-Christian posts. If you read her posts on Palin, they have nothing to do with her religion. Sounds like you have a problem with someone else’s religion.
I don’t comprehend the vitriol coming from some conservatives against Palin. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t speak Intellectual, just plain English. Really, I don’t get it.
She’s talking about olive oil? Whole Foods carries tons of products from Israel. Schlussel lost me when she started foaming at the mouth over Palin. It seems she’s really lost it now.

However, for this, I’ll digress that Israel is considered part of the European sphere of influence.
I had a similar journey. I started about 15 years ago, it took a while, weaning it into things a bit at a time and not loving it. After about 5 years, it became my go-to oil. I still don't like it with eggs, but now otherwise enjoy it. Mmmmm, eggplant slices dusted with flour and spices lightly sauteed in olive oil. Yum.
I thought I hated olives, too, for years. I've found it's really just the heavily brined, like Spanish manzanillas, that I don't care for. Many are just delish and for me the best are Greek oil cured stuffed with garlic or lemon zest or almonds - yum!

I've never seen it on the East Coast in this area ~ we have enough Italian and Sicilian wiseguys to keep the Californios out of the business anyway.
It's possible California producers simply don't make enough for the national market yet. It's like the special cheese the Amish in Indiana make ~ they sell it at stores near the state line, but you never see it advertised.

You’ve never had Elite chocolate? If what you say is true, I suppose it’s because Israel is a small country, so they can only produce so much for export. In my case, I found Israeli products because I kept my eye out for them (I found some Israeli gum in a Winn Dixie last year). Moreover, I used to live in Florida, always a good market for anything made in Israel because of the large Jewish population.
You can start by looking in the kosher section of any large supermarket. Kroger and Meijer do a pretty good job of that in my current home. And here are two webpages that list Israeli products:

If California olives are anything like muscadines, my favorite kind of grapes from Florida, you’re probably right. I have lived in Lexington, KY for three years, and only once did I ever find muscadines (the local Whole Foods had some last September). In other stores the folks didn’t even know what I was talking about. When I did a Google search, I found that according to some Civil War diaries, muscadines used to grow wild here. I guess it means that in the mid-19th century, Kentucky had a warmer climate than it does today.
You mentioned Amish cheeses; I do know of an Amish store here, near Henry Clay’s house. Maybe it’s time to pay them a visit.

They came from my greatgrandmother's farm, and she'd brought them up from relatives in London Kentucky.
There are "other" varietals of yet other species of grape that have been adapted to life in Indiana ~ which is really, really, really tough on grapes ~ except what we called "wild concords", and they also grew on our property. Wild concords taste much different than muscadines in that particular climatological regime.

I buy Israeli products all the time. I live in NY also a big area for Israeli products.
Have you ever had Prigat Grapefruit soda? One of my favorites. I also bought a delicious bottle of pomegranate dessert wine recently.
