Sept. 12, 2001: Van Jones Blamed America For Terror Attacks at Rally That Cheered Pentagon Attack

"The bombs the government drops in Iraq are the bombs that blew up in New York City," said Van Jones, director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, who also warned against forthcoming violence by the Bush Administration. "The US cannot bomb its way out of this one. Safety at home requires justice abroad."

Oakland, CA (September 13) - Hundreds of people gathered at Snow Park in Oakland tonight to mourn, provide support for each other, and speak out against violent United States policies at home and abroad, which they say are the underlying reasons for unprecedented terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington DC. Organizing against a growing climate of racism, nationalism and anti-Arab bigotry was a focus of the rally.

Organized by youth and people of color in Oakland and San Francisco, solidarity speakers included supporters of Palestine, people returning from the WCAR in South Africa, police brutality activists, anarchists and socialists, anti-gentrification activists and other people representing dozens of cultures and ethnicities. International solidarity was the theme as community and activist groups stood together against the threat of more US violence. Michael Franti of Spearhead also spoke, saying that "we need to be in a war against war."

In addition to an open mic, people at the rally talked with friends and strangers, cried, and began coming to terms with the events of the last three days. Many people who attended have family members still missing on the east coast. And many others have been the target of increased racism and discrimination during times of crisis in the United States, like the Oklahoma City bombing or Gulf War.

A recurring theme of the speakers was the brutal violence committed by or supported by the United States government on a daily basis.

In a diverse international community shocked by recent world events, deep feelings about the United States government were expressed. A young Puerto Rican person said that "the belly of the beast had something back to eat." A young Filipino human rights activist said that "when we found out what kind of place got hit, we were kind of glad to see the Pentagon burning. But we also know that thousands of Puerto Ricans, Haitians and other workers were in those buildings." An African-American man who works on gentrification issues in West Oakland said that "we're always seeing Americans drop bombs on people. We watch the Vietnamese get bombed, Iraqis get bombed, Palestinians get bombed, now it has come home to roost." Japanese-Americans spoke about internment camps and the nuclear holocaust brought on by US militarism.

“I’m not sure, but we impeached one lefty rat. We can impeach another.”

Van Jones’ resignation needs to be directly connected to Obama and his knowingly appointing him. At this point, to my knowledge, Obama hasn’t even acknowledged the issue.

Meantime, I’m just wondering if you have any research completed on Cass Sunstein or Valerie Jarrett?

THIS is the deathblow. Jones will be gone Tuesday. What started in the public consciousness with the a-hole video (also FReeper-found, by DefendGlenn.com) now ends with a FReeper finding once again. Bookends that mark the career gravestone of one Van Jones.

Game. Set. Match. Free Republic, baby.

Bookmarking for posterity! Prophetic and correct. Congrats to FR and Glenn Beck!

The left won’t be happy until every man, women, and child in the USA lies starving or dead.

I don’t know about the happy part - they will still see that as being unfulfilled.

The majority of the Left are incapable of being ‘happy’. They have to have a sore, a scab, something to pick at.

Let’s assume they have annihilated the Right, or picked our pockets clean to support them; they will still have something else to harp on.

It is discontent that drives them. The only dim hope is that at that point, they will feed on themselves.

A BUMP and reminder:

As the anniversary of 911 looms, stop to remember how we all felt that day. Our country had just been attacked, 3000 Americans were burning and dying in agony at the hands of evil’s soldiers..our country was in shock.

And to think, that while most Americans were coming together in sorrow, resolve, and steadfast love of country... people like Van Jones were busy sowing the seeds of disunity and distrust the very next day while our countrymen still burned. People like Van Jones were defending the Palestinians as they danced on our country’s grief and horror. People like Van Jones were blaming our country for this unspeakable evil. People like Van Jones were ‘organizing’ to spread smears and lies about our own country.....working to distract and divide.

And NEVER FORGET Van Jones pathetic resignation letter:

“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide,” Jones said.

LET’S ROLL!!

It’s interesting that a speaker from South Africa was there. The blacks in SA have been killing, robbing and raping whites en masse for a number of years now.

I’ve been thinking along these lines, trying to figure out WHO conceivably on the Republican side can stay....at the outside, there is possibly only ONE nominal Democrat who might stay, and even though I don’t much care for him, that would (of course) be Joe Leiberman. On the Republican side there might be one to two dozen who should even CONCEIVABLY be allowed to stay. You have a list?

You're talking about the Senate specifically?
For starters, Joe Lieberman isn't up for reelection until 2012.
I like Joe on a personal level, it is a good question of whether he should stay or go. He hurts the Democrat party the same way John McCain hurts the Republican party, so for that, maybe we should keep him around so long as there's no real hope of a true conservative in his seat.

Ben Nelson is similar, though he's not high-profile enough, and not 'maverick' enough, and Nebraska of all places could do a lot better.

However, I do not have nearly as negative a view on Senate Republicans as a whole as you do.
There are quite a few reliable bad actors on our side: McCain, Snowe, Collins, Graham, Voinovich. Grassley is often suspect, but has been good on key issues lately.
Hatch has also been teetering on the edge for a long time.

What I see as most important right now is a change of Leadership across the GOP.
The Washington Republicans are apparently so out of touch that they don't even know they're out of touch!
This is reflected in the fact that even after consecutive historic losses in the House, the Republicans continue to keep John Boehner on as Leader.
If they were serious about retaking the House, they would make Mike Pence Minority Leader.

Likewise they are making a mistake by keeping McConnell as GOP leader in the Senate.
McConnell has had a few tactical parliamentary triumphs as leader, but nothing that goes far enough to justify keeping such a meek and uninspiring leader. A leader should be someone that people want to follow. McConnell and Boeh are both anything but.

Republicans would do better to elevate John Thune to Minority Leader in the Senate. He may not be quite as favored by the base as DeMint or Coburn, but he has the charisma Republicans desperately need, and he is far less likely to be turned into a lightning rod by the Democrats and the media.

Cornyn also needs to be replaced as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee after the Specter and Crist fiascoes.
That could be an important step in rebuilding trust with the base.
That would be a good fit for DeMint.

Exactly. Every single one he has appointed is like this, they are all racist, marxist traitors.

Absolutely, we need to get out their the whole watermelon agenda, GREEN ON THE OUTSIDE, COMMIE RED ON THE INSIDE!

What a sacrilege that the marxist, racist Van Jones had plans to turn the commemoration of 9/11 into a “Green Day” as you said... We need to get this message out!

Where was Barack 0bama on September 11, 2001?

He didn't become a US Senator until elected in November 2004.

In 2001, he would have been running his real estate scams with Blago (who did not become Governor until 2003) and ACORN Community Organizing stuff in Chicago as a Illinois State Senator. In 2001, as co-chairman of the State Senate Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures. Ironic, huh?
