i’m no fan of the french. However, that munition malfunction (assuming this was not a training round) was lethal. You, I and any other american soldier would have quickly departed the area and sought cover should that have happened to us.

This is easily explained. The French missile is smart enough to know that there isn’t really a tank out there, and it conserves energy by dropping to the ground. Makes less CO2 too.

I remember at Ft. Sill when the 105 was first being introduced to us and the sergeant instructor on my gun caused the shell to hit about 100 meters in front of us, we weren’t sure what was going on but we could sure see the reaction of all the instructors and leaders, they were upset.

I was on a live fire exercise at NTC. We were doing a movement to contact when progress stopped. I dismounted my M113 and moved up front to assess the situation. At that moment, the engineers detonated a bangalore torpedo (maybe about 100 meters from me...on second thought it had to be further, because i never heard any warning...probably wearing a CVC helment though). I set a speed record in hugging the ground.

People who have never served nor have been on a live fire range cannot immagine the danger any kind of live munition poses.
