Ambulances race to Byrd's home By: Manu Raju September 22, 2009 10:16 AM EST
Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the Northern Virginia home of Sen. Robert Byrd Tuesday morning.
A neighbor of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat said several ambulances were outside his residence in McLean, Va., and a Byrd spokesman said the senator suffered a fall in his home. An officer at the McLean Fire Department said that a unit was dispatched at 9:10 to the address where Byrd lives, but he declined to comment on the substance of the response.
Byrd – the longest-serving senator in the nation’s history – has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.
“Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down,” said Jesse Jacobs, a spokesman for the senator. “To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out. At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted.”

Did he injure himself putting on his Grand Kleagle outfit?
They always send fire trucks along with ambulances even if there’s no report of fire. Seems like a waste of resources.
Tripped over his sheet.
Just as they trot out Dukakas to replace the Kennedy vote. Whoops.
He probably got his walker caught in the sheet.
I wonder if they’ll give him the red pill or the blue pill?
Volunteer fire department.
‘They always send fire trucks along with ambulances even if there’s no report of fire. Seems like a waste of resources.’
I think the firefighters are there to break down the doors in case entrance to the facility proves difficult. Not sure about that, but it sounds good...
He ought to resign from the Senate and let the citizens of WV have a senator who is able to function as such. Although I admit he is one of the few Dems with the fortitude to stand up for the Constitution against Obama, and there would be a loss in that area.
They're sent for manpower assistance. There are many times when I ran rescue in Virginia that we needed the assistance of firefighters to carry a person up or down stairs, etc.
As we speak the RATS are looking into a recourse to keep the seat safe for their dirty evil destroy America scheme! Ala Kennedy!
Soon.
In certain cities the ambulances are much busier than the fire trucks so they send them first to assist.
You can bet on some pill since he opposes cap & trade.
In Obamacare world, he would arrive at the hospital for some end of life counseling..
If he’s broke his hip, the drs. will probably just recommend bed rest and painkillers.
Oh, wait Obamacare isn’t in place yet, is it?
Oh wait again, he wouldn’t apply to him anyway...silly me!
Republican or Democrat Governor in that state?
Lucky his plan ISN’T Obamacare.
Senators like Thurmond, Kennedy, and Byrd are just props. Their staff write and run everything.
