DENVER – An Afghan immigrant wanted to carry out a massive New York City terror attack involving hydrogen peroxide bombs on commuter trains to coincide with the Sept. 11 anniversary before federal authorities foiled the plan, a U.S. prosecutor said Friday.
U.S. prosecutor Tim Neff told a federal judge in Denver that Najibullah Zazi "was intent on being in New York on 9/11" for a possible terror attack.
"The defendant was in the throes of making a bomb and attempting to perfect his formulation," Neff said. He called the evidence a "chilling, disturbing sequence of events."
Neff ordered Zazi, a 24-year-old Afghan-born coffee cart owner in New York and Denver airport shuttle driver, transferred to New York City to face charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. ..

Illiterate/ignorant journalist. The guy was buying hydrogen peroxide and acetone (nail polish remover) from beauty supply shops. Those are part of the reagents required to make PETN. A favorite terrorist explosive.
I should have read further. TATP is what you can make from those two reagents. It's not very stable. That's why the Pali terrorists have so many "work accidents".
Since they haven’t found any of the others involved, and haven’t found any of the bomb materials, I wouldn’t rest too easy just yet.

Maybe it works better than Tang, which someone said could serve as the oxidate (sp?--that which is oxidized?). I believe he was trying to make something called TATP, which is supposed to be powerful, but highly unstable.
