FEMA Awards Fire Prevention Grant to ACORN
Big Government ^ | September 28, 2009 | Capitol Confidential

Posted on 09/29/2009 12:22:39 PM PDT by TenthAmendmentChampion

Just a few weeks ago, on September 4th, FEMA handed over $1 million to the ACORN Institute, an ACORN affiliate in New Orleans. The grant is for “fire prevention.” You can find the grant here. Virtually every other organization receiving “fire prevention” grants is a fire deparment or medical facility.

Here’s some background on ACORN Institute:

An affiliate of ACORN, the ACORN Institute, has been a participant in the IRS tax assistance program. The institute prides itself as a one-stop shopping service for low-income households seeking free benefits. In addition to tax preparation, it also provides information on how to secure government aid and to prevent mortgage foreclosure. Among the ACORN Institute’s partners are Citigroup, H&R Block and the Marguerite Casey Foundation. If even many Democrats in Congress are embarrassed by their history of support for ACORN, surely these entities can be as well.

Unclear what any of that has to do with “fire prevention.” According to FEMA, anyone with questions about the grants is urged to contact them at 1-866-274-0960, or via email at firegrants@dhs.gov.

If we all file FOIA requests we can ferret out this garbage. We surround them!

firegrants@dhs.gov

According to your FEMA website, your agency granted the "ACORN Institute" close to a million dollars in 2008 for "fire prevention."

The ACORN Institute New Orleans LA Fire Prevention $997,402.00 09/04/09

I am requesting copies of the grant proposal from ACORN and the signed approvals which are a matter a public record. I want to see the type of fire prevention activities that ACORN provides and understand the decision.

I also want information on the following questions

* Who signed the authorization? * Why does FEMA believe ACORN is qualified to perform such work for the government? * What work was performed with this money? * What types of similar grants are under consideration for 2009?

Thank you for your time.

You are right. The system has become so corrupt it is rotten throughout and right to the core.

Just a guess, but I’m thinking ObamACORN is probably being paid not to commit arson or incite others to do so, during the next New Orleans riots.

From the article:

I see a lot of entries that aren’t fire departments. There are a number of housing authorities and even some universities and hospitals and nursing homes. But I also see several Unions listed on that grant list. For example, the International Association of Fire Fighters in DC got $749,987.00

The results are slightly more focused if you search +ACORN +grant +2009 site:.gov.

That’s a good search strategy.

Via it I was led to Issa’s report on ACORN which has been referenced a few times on FR already.

Is ACORN Intentionally Structured As a Criminal Enterprise?

Darrell Issa (CA-49), Ranking Member
Staff Report U.S. House of Representatives
111th Congress Committee on Oversight and Government Reform July 23, 2009

Issa’s report is worth reading due to the numerous references within it.

buffalojack has used it as a tagline for a while.

Did you see "Day After Disaster" (I think that's what it was called) on the History Channel last night? The show covered nuking DC as though it would be some sort of terrible disaster for America (as opposed to just the people in DC), and kept labeling DC as the "center of our Democracy". Yup, that's the problem. A democracy of idiots has replaced the Constitutional Republic we were supposed to maintain.

Lots and lots and *lots* of planning and resources for "Continuity of Government" - shelters, evac plans, special facilities for our Federal Royalty. And for the mere peasants? Count on volunteer help from elsewhere, or you'll do without, suckers.

I'd be very curious to count the number of weeping vs. the number cheering if DC went up in a mushroom cloud. Very curious.

FEMA handed over $1 million to the ACORN Institute

$1 million to NOT burn down a city??? I could do that for half the price.
