E.P.A. Moves to Curtail Greenhouse Gas Emissions
New York Times ^ | September 30, 2009 | John M. Broder

Posted on 09/30/2009 2:50:59 PM PDT by reaganaut1

The Environmental Protection Agency announced a proposed rule Wednesday to begin regulating greenhouse gas emissions from thousands of power plants and large industrial facilities.

The proposed rule would require polluters to install the best available technology to capture greenhouse gases whenever a new plant is opened or significantly changed. The rule applies to any industrial plant that emits at least 25,000 tons of greenhouse gases a year.

When the rule is final, the EPA said operators of as many 14,000 sources of pollution would have to get additional permits.

The proposal, long anticipated and highly controversial, marks the first government move toward controlling the emissions blamed for the warming of the planet from stationary sources. The E.P.A. has already proposed an ambitious program to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks, expected to take effect early next year.

Lisa P. Jackson, the E.P.A. administrator, announced the proposal on the same day that Senators John F. Kerry and Barbara Boxer introduced sweeping climate change and energy legislation. While that bill faces a highly uncertain fate in the Senate, the Obama administration signaled its intention to move forward on global warming with or without a Congressional mandate.

Ms. Jackson, citing her authority under the Clean Air Act, said the new rule would apply only to facilities emitting 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year or more. That would exempt virtually all small businesses and farms and cover only the largest power plants, refineries and large-scale factories.

“By using the power and authority of the Clean Air Act,” Ms. Jackson said in a statement Wednesday afternoon, “we can begin reducing emissions from the nation’s largest greenhouse gas emitting facilities without placing an undue burden on the businesses that make up the vast majority of our economy.

Definition of a ‘Green Job’: Any taxpayer funded government job that reduces/restricts the productivity/profitability of any capitalist private energy producing job.

Why do you think they are all made in %&#$^ing China.

We can't plate or paint anything because of EPA regs, talk to an auto engineer familiar with it, it will make your head spin like you are in the movie the Exorcist....

IOW, no more new plants in the United States, and no improvements or upgrades to plants in the United States. And neither Obama nor Congress will close the border, either.

It's highly ironic that this bureaucratic nightmare was released just as this report of high fraud among the warmers came out: Treemometers: A new scientific scandal.

Someone should call these a-holes and explain that the economy is collapsing.

But, that's what they want.

The EPA crew is really scarey. A bunch of them came into the pasture acriss the street the other day and were busy chasing cow farts around with tin cans in order to take samples. It was insane.

I mean listening to them yelling, " I smell one over here!" ,and running in a stange way that made me think they had corks up their a$$es in order to avoid contaminating their "samples."

They are crazy. I told them they should tie deer antlers onto their heads, it would make it easier to sneak up on the cows and get closer ( its hiunting season up here.)

( sarc.off )

They have gione absolutely bonkers, chicken little syndromoe now wastes billions of dollars and here we are , in for our coldest winter in a generation, this year.

They will regret this when the science is settled down the road. They will be on record as being morons and will be ridiculed until the end of time.

They ruled the Clean Air Act does give the EPA the authority to regulate GHG's as pollutants. The majority also ruled GHG's fit into the EPA's "capacious definition of a pollutant."

It was the EPA who then, under Obama's appointees came out with the endangerment finding, which is the catalyst to treat GHG's as dangerous to our health. The endangerment finding is what triggers the Clean Air Act regulations which is where it's at currently.

It's interesting to read Scalia's and Roberts' dissents. Once again, I believe Kennedy was the swing vote.

Well, soon we will have am indirect tax on all goods made in the USA which have air emissions based on the EPS arbitrary emissions estimates.

So much for heavy industry inn the USA.They will begin closing down except for those run by Dem dingbats who will get federal subsidies to contiue in business. This is really what this is about, getting rid of conservatives who have businesses. They been doing it here in Vermont for over 10 years on state air quality. The only businesses left in Vermont with smoke stacks are a couple of garbage incinerator plants, which spew allegedly politically correct smoke.LOL

If there is a silver lining to all of this its that what can be done by regulation can also be undone by regulation with no Congressional involvement. That being said, one can only cringe at what havoc this idiot and his sychopantic minions can cause in the next three and a half years, if he lasts that long.

It is unfortunate that as we enter a solar minimum and temperatures may move south in the northern hemisphere by 500 miles or more, the EPA closed its self off from the most recent research of the affects of sunspot cycles.

In essence FEMA will be looking for hurricane activity while the winters to come shut down the our states. Hurricanes may disappear or never hit shore.

In a snapshot, The EPA has cripple the USA. The USA just don’t know it yet. Thus, All these poor American souls are going to be burning anything to stay warm. Just think of the toxins that will fill the air.

By the time the next sunspot cycle begins, we will be a cripple nation. FEMA may be burying thousands if not millions of frozen American corpses thanks to the irresponsibility of the EPA to do its job and be enlightened to the affects of a solar minimum.

France lost nearly a third of its population in areas during the Mini-Ice age. We are unprepared for what is coming.

May God forgive them for they know not what they do.
