A con artist who claimed to have proof that David Letterman bedded several female staff members tried to extort $2 million from the the funnyman, he told his audience Thursday night.

The stunning admission came hours after Letterman testified before a grand jury and admitted to "sexual relationships with members of his staff."

"This morning, I did something I've never done in my life," said Letterman. "I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury."

The "Late Show" host received a package from an individual who claimed to have information on his dalliances with female employees and said he would be outed unless he came up with $2 million.

Investigators instructed Letterman to mail a phony $2 million check to the individual, which led to the extortionist's arrest on Thursday.

Letterman, 62, was a long time bachelor who finally married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March, when he announced it on air.

Sexual harassment law states that a sexual relationship with a staffer is more or less by definition harassment of those staffers you aren’t having a relationship with.

Which, along with many other aspects of the law, got obscured in the whole Bill/Monica thing.

Maybe somebody will sue Dave into the ground. We can hope.

I think I'd pay that much NOT to hear about that gap-toothed hack's sad little dalliances.

Bad headline....

How come they called the guy a ‘Con Artist’ if it’s true?

I always thought Con Artists worked in untruths, lies and forgeries....

You’re right. This was simple blackmail. No “con” involved.

I’m sure you don’t really mean that. His wife is fully as attractive as he is and may be a nice woman tho I question her taste.

". . . I can prove that you do those terrible things.' "And sure enough, there was some stuff in the pages that proved I did those terrible things," he said."

Whoa, I hope this goes to trial and this evidence comes out!

Dave may have been wiser to just pay the $2 million. If this thing goes to trial there could be some kinky, quirky, goofy testimony and evidence brought forth with camera crews catching every embarrassing minute. But they say there's no such thing as bad publicity.

His wife is truly unattractive, but then so is he, so I see yuor point. However he isnt going to turn down an attractive woman drawn to his wealth and celebrity.

Well, seeing how the perp is an Emmy Award-winning producer, it surely isn't really a crime-crime.

Or maybe it is, since it was committed against another "artist".

Oh, now I'm just confused! Where's Whoppee?
