Barack Obama furious at General Stanley McChrystal speech on Afghanistan
Telegraph UK ^ | 05 Oct 2009 | Alex Spillius

According to sources close to the administration, Gen McChrystal shocked and angered presidential advisers with the bluntness of a speech given in London last week.

The next day he was summoned to an awkward 25-minute face-to-face meeting on board Air Force One on the tarmac in Copenhagen, where the president had arrived to tout Chicago's unsuccessful Olympic bid.

Kudos to McChrystal on this one. He also needs to send Obama and his terrorist favoring/Serviceman killing ROE’s packing publicly.

“Bruce Ackerman, an expert on constitutional law at Yale University, said in the Washington Post: ‘As commanding general, McChrystal has no business making such public pronouncements.’”

Did you see this? If the Commanding General, the guy in charge, has no business speaking the truth in public when our Troops are being slaughtered, WHO DOES?

I will respect him for that much, at least. I STILL question his strategy.

An adviser to the administration said: "People aren't sure whether McChrystal is being naïve or an upstart. To my mind he doesn't seem ready for this Washington hard-ball and is just speaking his mind too plainly."

Pot calling the kettle black....

Yes. It is an artificially created system of forcing integration on people who have no desire to be integrated.

People should be free to choose their friends and associates without it being forced on them. If they choose to be diverse that is their choice, if they dont it should not be forced upon them.

General McChrystal should tell ZERO that either ZERO gives General McChrystal what he needs to win or General McChrystal will submit his resignation and then IMMEDIATELY go to Fox News and tell America how it REALLY is under ZERO.

If Gen. McChrystal is the right type of soldier (which I suspect he is) it wouldn't be that easy. You don't just walk away from your men, leaving them in harm's way, for a political stunt. Taking a position such as McChrystal occupies means a commitment to the men he leads.

Enter Wesley Clark and neither general wants to have that happen. Clark is Obama's checkmate to their resignation threat.

If all this were going on behind-the-scenes, I'd agree. But now that it's public, Clark would be taking a big chance by replacing McChrystal in a theater that was devolving into a defeat. He'd then be associated with that outcome; regardless of spin.

A minimum of 8 years active duty. Welcome to Afgan-Nam. Lets start Rolling Thunder, Carpet bombing, Napalm, get the good stuff out. Put away the obammy’s feather dusters.

How can BHO look at himself in the mirror knowing that he is a total fake! Actually, he probably believes that he IS something without ever doing ANYTHING!

True. In my experience I’ve noticed that most bosses who aren’t competent will tend to do that because they are the weaker of the two. They’re wrong and they know it, but won’t admit it and swallow their pride.

The General is the stronger of the two and has the obvious experience. 0 has nothing but campaigning experience. It’s the leaning forward, tense positions they’re in that indicate it did not go well.

I still believe the 0 will wait for a little while before tossing the General under the bus.

I don't think that this public dispute is all that it seems on the face of it. Here's what I think is going on:

1. Obama is getting ready to backtrack on his commitment to win in Afghanistan; and
2. Obama needs to prevent McChrystal -- who has not been in the job all that long -- from resigning in protest when Obama 'zags'.

IOW's, criticism of the general at this time is laying the groundwork for attacking the general's reputation should he resign.

Gen. McChrystal is between a rock and a hard place. ZERO is forcing McChrystal to "lead' with one hand tied behind his back. HOW, I ask, does that help our troops?

You're spot on. It' doesn't help our troops. But if McChrystal resigns I'll be surprised. A good soldier does his best with what he's dealt. The time for recrimination is once it's over. I just don't see him going the recrimination route (including resignation) before his responsibility to our troops is over.

I question the strategy and the ROE’s. Something HAS to give here. I heard a Maj. General this morning on FOX saying “ALL IN or ALL OUT”. Our troops deserve that much and more.

Supposedly there will be a decision ‘in weeks’ on the troop surge request by Obama. Will he be meeting with and consulting with and seeking the advice and input of McChrystal within those ‘weeks’? Or is he too busy ramrodding his bull domestic socialistic ‘reform’?

May God Bless Gen. McChrystal in whatever decision he makes and may God Bless and keep our brave men and women in uniform. I guess we will have to let history judge the outcome of our actions or inaction.
