Losing It Over Scozzafava (R-ACORN, NY)
American Spectator ^ | 10.8.09 @ 6:10AM | By The Prowler

Posted on 10/08/2009 7:28:34 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) lashed out at conservative Republican colleagues during a meeting on Capitol Hill Wednesday when asked why the NRCC chose to back liberal, ACORN supported candidate Dede Scozzafava, in the upcoming special election to succeed Rep. John McHugh in New York's 23rd Congressional District

Sessions was called out by conservative members of the caucus, and challenged when asked why NRCC resources -- cash and personnel -- were being used for Scozzafava. "We have a conservative running in this race, and the Republican Party is not with him," says a conservative House member who attended the meeting. "There are a number of us who are profoundly embarrassed by this race, and while we don't blame Pete, we do blame the NRCC staff for apparently not doing its job."

Scozzafava's candidacy is getting so much attention because a conservative Republican, Doug Hoffman, is now challenging her, running as the New York Conservative Party candidate in the race. Hoffman was rejected by the Republican Party of New York, which chose not to contact Conservative Party leader Michael Long for input on the pick. Such input is usually sought, to ensure that the Republican candidate will also be able to run on the Conservative Party line on the ballot.

Hoffman has already been endorsed by the Club for Growth, Gary Bauer, and former Sen. Fred Thompson.

Regardless of the outcome of the race, it appears that looking to 2010, Rep. Pete Sessions will be examining the staff of the NRCC and making changes to ensure that a Scozzafava doesn't happen again.

Just like the Senate Committee backing Specter over Toomey. How many feet get shot off before they learn?

This is why I, and many others, will no longer send money to the RNC, NRCC, or the NRSC

The GOP refuses to listen, we refuse to support. Some day these idiots will understand.

You miss the point. They are socialists, their task is to put republican socialists in office, or loose to democrat socialists.

NRCC staffers are more concerned about not receiving dirty looks from their liberal georgetown buddies when in line at the nearest Starbucks than they are about actually winning races in “flyover country.”

Exactly - support the candidates as you see fit. Not the party. The party is nothing but a political union, a self-serving entity that cares not for its constituency.

conservatives have been pressuring former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to step up and support Hoffman, both financially and with an appearance, but that Gingrich has thus far rejected those requests without an explanation.

Never trust a NEWT.

There is no shortage of stupidity in this country. There are in fact seemingly inexhaustable reserves of it. It is the only thing that politicians produce more of than they consume.

No MORE money! I'm donating to Hoffman's campaign directly. The good news there though is that the NRCC was challenged.. I don't believe I've heard of that before.

The NRCC tried to put a Soros backed candidate in the Republican primary in my race. They care about money and little else. It’s about getting self-financed candidates and the NRCC is willing to sacrifice principle to do so.

I am the most conservative candidate running in TX17. The NRCC acted as if a phone call was taking up too much of their time.

Their backs are against the wall, they have only one chance of winning, and they refuse to take it. What a gang of jerks!

I’m waiting to see how this plays out, and in particular what course Sarah Palin takes. But it’s looking more and more as if the Republican Party simply cannot be salvaged. It’s had its run of 150 years, and it’s morally and intellectually exhausted.

No principles, no common sense, no political savvy. The great majority of them, and seemingly all of the leadership, are losers.

The Republican Party was born when the Whigs had degenerated into a similar condition. Now, I think the Republican Party is dying.

No, I have never advocated voting third party in earlier elections—with the sole exception of when I was living in NY and occasionally voted for the Conservative candidate when, as in this instance, the Republican candidate was simply insupportable. That did generally teach them to consult with the Conservative Party, which they evidently didn’t bother to do again this time around.

But there are historic occasions when a new party is born. And I think this may be the time. We’ll see. But I sure don’t see any signs of life in the Republican leadership. Steele, Sessions, and the rest of those stupid, incompetent, unprincipled losers.

There has been an uproar over this choice. When the UN Human Rights Council is to the right of the Republican candidate on abortion, maybe people in the party will take notice.

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but 'Scozzafava' gave me a chuckle. (Both my maternal and paternal grandparents were Italian immigrants.)

Scozzafava = "Bean Shucker" or "Bean Counter" in Italian slang. LOL

Please carry on with your regularly scheduled programming.

Sessions isn’t a socialist. He either seems to think winning is more important than winning with the right candidate, or he hasn’t been paying attention, or both. In either event, this New York deal represents a major screw up and people should be calling his office and letting him know. Contributing to Hoffman isn’t a bad idea, either.

I just called Sessions office to complain. They said I should call the NRCC. I did, their number is 202 479 7007. Neither Sessions’ telephone line nor that of the NRCC were busy.

Boo Pete Sessions, boo. The right thing to do is switch support to the only actual Republican in the race, Hoffman. Not bitch out because some people dared to criticize this goatrope.
