2010 elections could be painful for Democrats

As Obama, Pelosi and Reid rush to transform America into a European-style social democratic state, they must be nervous; they must feel the sand sliding under their feet. The 2010 elections are just over the horizon and the omens are not encouraging for them. Thomas Jefferson warned that "Great innovations should not be forced on slender majorities.” Maybe so. But the Democrats may be calculating that a slender majority is better than an anorexic majority, or no majority at all.
In 2006, it was Republicans who couldn’t catch a break. The Iraq war was going very badly. The federal response to Hurricane Katrina had, fairly or not, further tarnished the Bush administration’s reputation for competence. And Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, was caught in a sex scandal with congressional pages. Scandal has always played a large role in American politics. That November, Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives and Speaker Pelosi promised "to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C.” The Democrats, she proclaimed, "intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.”
Yes, well, about that — not going so well. Rep. Charles Rangel, a familiar face of the Democratic Party after 40 years in the House, failed to report as much $1.3 million in income in what even The New York Times editorially described as "a lengthy docket of bizarre-to-outrageous behavior.” Yet Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic caucus shielded Rangel when the Republicans voted to expel him from the chairmanship of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.

I’m convinced their strategery is to shove as much of this crap through as possible while they have the majority, then hope that Republican don’t gain enough seats to start un-doing it before it takes effect.

Yup, we need functional majorities in the House and Senate or die.
Pelosi and Reid should appear in every add calling American’s Nazis and evil mongers.
Don’t count your votes until they are cast GOP. You got a lot of work left to do to win back power.
If 2010 is NOT painful for the Dims, we are deep in the weeds, considering what wreckage and treason Bambi has accomplished in 9 months.

2010 needs to be extremely painful to all incumbents.They are all infected.

If it’s enacted, it can never be undone. To undo it would require:
- A majority in the House of Representatives
- More than 60 Senate seats to avoid filibuster
- Someone in the WH willing to sign the repeal bill
- The willingness of the Republican party to undo it
The first item is possible in 2010 or 2012. The second is unlikely for 8-10 years. The third? We’ll see. The fourth—never.....

I have had it with all this phoney talk about filibusters in the Senate. In 2011 we're going to repeal some of their bills and everything folds because they threaten to filibuster. I'd say fine start talking. No more phoney threats. Let the old drunks in the party stand and talk for as long as they want. They'll drop like flies.
Unfortunately, with the atmosphere in Washington, you don’t actually have to do it; all you have to do is threaten it. I remember a few years back the Republican leadership threatened to make the Dems give the speeches 24 hours a day in a real filibuster, but I think the Rs backed down before it happened....
