Many Gun Owners Think Obama Will Try to Ban Gun Sales
Gallup ^ | October 20, 2009 | Frank Newport

Fifty-five percent of this group, and 41% of all Americans, hold this belief

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup poll may explain recent reports of increased gun and ammunition sales in the U.S. Majorities of those who personally own a gun (55%) and of those with a gun in the household (53%), as well as 41% of all Americans, believe that President Obama "will attempt to ban the sale of guns in the United States while he is president."

Will Barack Obama Attempt to Ban the Sale of Guns in the United States While He Is President?

"Gallup's question documents that for a majority of gun owners, the belief that the president intends to try to ban the sale of guns is apparently quite real."

The issue of Obama's intentions relating to guns has particular relevance given the widespread news reports of sharply increased sales of guns and ammunition. Many of these reports suggest that the reason behind these increased sales is the belief -- right or wrong -- that the president intends to severely curtail the legal availability of guns and ammunition. A recent National Public Radio news story, for example, reported: "Gun dealers and bullet-makers are straining to keep up with record demand for ammunition. Some dealers think it's because of fear that President Obama might limit gun use. Although the president has made no specific proposal, bullets for sportsmen have been scarce for months."

And similar themes were struck in an Associated Press report: "American bullet-makers are working around the clock, seven days a week, and still cannot keep up with the nation's demand for ammunition. Shooting ranges, gun dealers, and bullet manufacturers say they have never seen such shortages. Bullets, especially for handguns, have been scarce for...

He can't do much without a willing Congress, and Congress isn't willing. IIRC, 66 rats in the House signed a letter to Holder telling him to forget about renewing an "assault weapon" ban.

People are not buying guns because they fear bans.

People are not buying guns because they fear bans.

I suppose that's possible, but a lot of people already bought the guns they want, and in this economy, who can afford to buy yet another one?

That would only create a thriving black market with much stiffer penalties for informants than say, the current marijuana market.

Drugs are illegal, so are invaders from other countries, and they haven't really slowed any of that down, do they really think they can stop guns?

Earle Stanley Gardner, the author of all the old Perry Mason novels was reputed to have a collection of homemade firearms, some rather sophisticated (not your average zip gun).

They going to start regulating machine tools and metal stock next?

If Maurice Hinchey votes for a ban, look for an exemption for members of Congress!

That’s why my 27 July ammo order from Cabela’s hasn’t filled yet....

No worries....I’m full up in 7 calibers.
The backorder is just to cover my practice needs.

Because he’s a Liberal, and all our recent Liberal Presidents have instituted gun bans: Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush...

I am getting a Colt Delta Elite 10-mm. The rounds from this baby hit like a truck.

“They’ll NEVER take away our guns.”

Any rational person who realizes that an estimated 300-million guns are owned by our citizens and that trying to take them away is suicide.
