So Sarah Palin has endorsed a right-wing candidate, Doug Hoffman, running on the Conservative Party line for a House seat in Upstate New York, rebuking a moderate Republican in a forthcoming special election. And while its true that Palins politics probably mesh better with Hoffmans, strategically, I have to wonder: What is she thinking?
If Hoffman -- somehow -- wins with her help, she will have alienated a GOP establishment desperate to reconstruct past majority coalitions that included moderates, both because she will have hurt their cause and because they will fear her influence among true believers.

Dumb ass liberals just don’t get it do they
she has beliefs, let the GOP join her...Great Ole Palin
Wow.
Liberals advise the GOP establish to cut off conservatives and then advise conservatives to kiss up to the establishment.
Too bad.
We no longer follow. We no longer stay silent.
We are ROGUE. Haven’t they heard?
He says this likes it's a bad thing. The GOP is dead to me. Good riddence.
And this is supposed to be a source worth listening to on major public issues?
Congressman Billybob
My God, talk about reaching. This POS editorial is just another Palin bashing spasm by the liberal pressholes.
McCain overlooked her as a person he considered serious for future presidential runs, yet he choose her as his running mate. He was disengenous to have asked her to join his team, or spitful to have excluded her for mention of a future run. She owes no thanks to the GOP. She will live by her principles. And God bless her is doing so.
If Hoffman wins with her help, which I hope he does, I think it will be the GOP establishment that will need to worry about having alienated Sarah Palin.
I think Sarah Palin’s facebook postpretty much sums up what she was thinking:
Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”The people of the 23rd Congressional District of New York are ready to shake things up, and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong as Election Day approaches! He needs our help now.
Support Doug Hoffman
The votes of every member of Congress affect every American, so it's important for all of us to pay attention to this important Congressional campaign in upstate New York. I am very pleased to announce my support for Doug Hoffman in his fight to be the next Representative from New York's 23rd Congressional district. It's my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.
Our nation is at a crossroads, and this is once again a "time for choosing."
The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.
And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.
Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.
Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of "blurring the lines" between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race. This is why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party's ticket.
Republicans and conservatives around the country are sending an important message to the Republican establishment in their outstanding grassroots support for Doug Hoffman: no more politics as usual.
You can help Doug by visiting his official website below and joining me in supporting his campaign: http://www.doughoffmanforcongress.com/donate3.html.

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).
Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.
Scozzafava also holds these positions:
Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.
This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.
There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal). Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district. |
The GOP “establishment” is as infested with elitists as the democRat party is.
Time to clean them all out of positions of power.
If this can’t be accomplished, I forsee another civil war in the making, because we will not allow a “ruling class” to control our lives.
If Hoffman wins, Palin stands alone as the only grass root hopeful to step up and support a conservative. She will garnish the tea party movement. The Huckster loses big time in this event.
If Hoffman finishes second, basically the same applies but the GOP will be at fault for losing this seat. The beltway insiders lose big; put Romney here.
If he finishes a respectable third, the conservative coalition will have sent a message that it is willing to lose rather than pull the GOP lever. This will wake up the GOP to rethink candidates like Crist and Blunt. Palin is the leader of the Conservative Tea Party Coalition.
Stephen Stromberg
Sarah's book will sell better than the Washington Post where he spews his garbage!
I hope Sarah and others alienate the GOP establishment, you know why, because they are nothing more then the Democrat-Lite. Good, she has them shaking in their boots, I think that is a good thing
Even if Hoffman loses, Conservatives are cheering the move because she stood on principle.
These things are completely alien to their worldview, which includes lying and deceiving in any and every possible way to gain as much power over the proles as possible.
The truth is it will send a message to the RINO ‘establishment’ that if they do not get their act together, the ‘base’ will look elsewhere for politicians who will stand up for conservative principles.
The MSM still can’t quite figure out what the tea parties were all about, and the support for Hoffman is just a manifestation of that tea party spirit.
bump
Stephen Stromberg, your salary should be reduced by 90% !
So any dumbass can be a “journalist” looks like.
