2,000 IU/day. I figure with the other immune boosters I’m taking 2,000 IU is enough.

She went from severe to normal in 24 hours.

That's good to hear. My son woke up with a temp of 104+ and a sore throat this morning and I got him straight in. He's on Tamiflu now and is already doing a little better. You give me some more hope that this will be over with for the most part by the end of the weekend.

He was diagnosed with "probable H1N1" and there were at least 20 other kids in there with him.

I posted a link to an article, response #798, written by a Dr. who has done extensive research on Vitamin D. Very well written, straight to the point - you’ll enjoy the read.
His magic number is 2000 D3 a day during the months with limited sun exposure.

"2000 D3 a day during the months with limited sun exposure."

Which for most Americans today is most of the year!

I read a report about Vitamin D-3 a couple years ago and began taking 2000 IU a day then. Haven’t had a cold or the flue since. Now my whole family is taking it, too.

We’re not worried about the swine flu, or any influenza.

I hope so. Don't stop with the treatment of the symptoms... humidifier, liquids/gatorade, tylenol... close supervision - take temp every few hours (yah, sleep deprivation is a parent's row to hoe).

Once the whine changes from "daddy, I feel horrible" to "daddy, I'm hungry" ya know you're out of the woods :o)

My mom just got hers at a Tom Thumb store yesterday. I usually don’t get flu shots anyway, since there are different strains at any given time. I’ve seen people I work with get the shot and come down with a different strain, just the same. I’m trying to decide whether I need the tamiflu this year tho. Supposedly, the stores have enough supply. It’s just the doctors that can’t get any more. Go figure.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Besides the fever, the eating part is what concerns me next. He usually eats like a horse and last evening and today the only thing he is interested in is bomb-pops.

sleep deprivation is a parent's row to hoe

No truer words... On top of all of this we are expecting son #2 any day now, actually if not in the next 2 days he is coming out Tuesday morning for sure. I keep telling myself that sleep is way overrated, I'll get to it in a couple of months :)

Before or after the shot? Have they done research on THAT?

The shots have not been given yet. Even the military has not gotten them. The regular seasonal flu shots are in short supply. Normally I get mine at either my company nurses office, or since I've been assigned on an Army post, from the Army. This year, less than two weeks ago, they gave the "nasal" vaccination for seasonal flu. But you can't get that if you are over 50. (And its not like there aren't plenty of Army civilians who are over 50) So I got mine at WalGreens, since my doctor's office was also out. As did my coworkers because the clinic(s) they normally use were also out of the shots. My wife, who is a department chair at a small college, usually gets hers from the college, but they didn't have any either. She happened to be visiting me (long boring story) so we both got ours at the local Walgreens, since the Walgreens in far north Texas that she uses was also, out.

Since the shots (or nasal vaccinations) have not yet been given (actually I think a few places started this week) infections via the vaccination are not a factor.

Congrats on the to-be addition!

My daughter asked for some McDonald's fries on the day after taking the Tamiflu (after woofing into her trash container overnight). I knew then she was well on the way back :o)

As for catching up on sleep, I'm going on 16 years, and, sadly, don't see an end in sight...

Thanks!

The Doc warned me about the puking from the Tamiflu but so far so good (the bucket is right there though!)

I guarantee that when his appetite comes back the first think he will ask for is "chicken and fries" and off to McD's I will go.

But you can't get that if you are over 50.

Unless you use Grecian Formula right before you go in like I did and say you are 49. It worked.

Well, when your child is the one with epilepsy and other neurological conditions, it is frightening.

It’s not panic, but there is a real lack of information.

My husband and I would like to know how many people with epilepsy have died or been hospitalized because of H1N1.

We’d also like to know that for asthma because our other daughter has that.

Since our children are high risk for complications, should we keep them out of school because their school is having an H1N1 outbreak.

Even when you call the doctors, they don’t seem to know. I’m getting different information from the asthma doctor versus the pediatrician.
