Social Upheaval, How Close Are We?

Politics / Social Issues
Oct 24, 2009 - 02:33 AM
By: Michael_T_Bucci

Many authors who have contributed to The Market Oracle have expressed concern - some overtly and some in passing - about the possibility of social upheavals in the US caused by economic dislocations and what impact these events would have on the markets.
How close are we?
An excellent synopsis by Mr Andre Damon of the current status of economic conditions extant in the US and the world on the eve of the G20 conference contains a prescient conclusion: "These different factors set the stage for the inevitable eruption of open social conflict." Having written elsewhere this same conclusion and finding it raised by political writers both on the Left and Right using identical economic and social data and yardsticks, I firmly believe that open conflict MAY BE UPON US and needs only a small (or large, I believe) catalyst to erupt. Hopefully, this won't occur.

Regrettably, the American far-right has hijacked both the minds of workers who would otherwise galvanize behind self-defensive and pro-social agendas, and of Republican moderates and centrists; while the Democrats, Progressives and Left-leaners remain mesmerized and paralyzed in a residual stupor of Obamania (frozen in denial).
President Barrack Obama serves the purpose (knowingly or unknowingly) of neutralizing the center- to left-coalitions whereby the Bush agenda would and did continue without dissent; his administration, however, now is being drowned by assaults from the far-right (paraphrasing Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit's comments about the NPD) who are "daring to do things that endanger our democracy".

Many of these agenda-setters (along with gunners at Obama rallies) are seeking majority rule in 2010 when they should be sought for aiding and abetting insurrection and endangering the life of a President.
Republican moderates and centrists did not stop this momentum, but instead allowed extremists to control their party and vie for future control of America in what seems a "by any means possible" manner. These are critical times for this Democracy.

Social upheaval?

I think it's a done deal.

Why do you think you can't buy ammo?

This is one reason I support an Atlas Shrugged strike over revolution. The former makes it so the producers survive while at the same time denying the parasites a justification to engage even more force against us and a scapegoat to blame their own actions on.

PROJECTION. The American LEFT is going to be the problem. It is the SELF-PERCEIVED HAVE NOTS which will start the violence ... ya know ... the Islamofascists, the Communists, the Socialists, and the general Looters. The 2nd Amendment is the only thing stopping these one world order CLOWNS.

One of several instances of ignorance by the author in this article.

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you’ll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton

The problem with this guy is that he’s bought into all the leftist propaganda about conservatives in the USA.

Oh, it’s bullcrap, but when was the last time you think he ever spent an evening chatting up politics with American conservatives?

He only knows what he’s been told.

I know what I see, though. There isn’t a group anywhere else on the planet that will do more to defend the United States against fascism.

Part of me thinks we are in need of a good ‘reset’. During the past few decades our country has veered so far off course, I’m not sure it can be set right.

Another part of me believes that if we can get the right people in office who will lead and educate the public, our country as we know it might yet be saved.

I’m skeptical the latter, but we should at least try to save what our founders created, and what many great people gave their lives to protect and defend.

Just another piece in the bigger puzzle and more reason for sheep to believe “Urban Shield” type activity has a real need behind it.

A closer look at a technical society in meltdown would be, at least somewhat, the old CCCP.

>>>Given this charged atmosphere of anger, hate and potential violence that has infected too many Americans against Government, the Federal Reserve, Democrats, fictitiously labeled “Socialists” and social welfare programs, we are at risk of experiencing a controlled, scripted and programmed “Revolution” - not by the Left, but by the Right.<<<

This comment probably dates me, but it reminds of me how me and my roommates used to discuss politics in the dorms back in the 1970s, fueled by passion, good weed, and a lack of knowledge.

I support an Atlas Shrugged strike, too. They can take everything from me except my will to be productive. Call if the Cloward-Piven strategy in reverse. The government needs to confiscate productive people’s wealth; what if we just decided to stop being productive?

The mass strike help bring down communist Poland, too.

As things get worse, I’ll hunker down and stop buying, stop producing, and if I can help it, dissolve my wealth in such a way as to prevent the government or anyone from using it. At that point I’ll be “inside” the system set up by the left of “the needy,” and then I can start acting like a good little termite and erode the structure slowly until the rot causes the whole edifice to fall apart.

At that point, I’ll still have the values and foresight which made me productive in the first place, and there’s always a construction boom after a calamity. Like Rahm Emmanuel said, don’t let a crisis go to waste.

The reason the Senate just passed 99 weeks of unemployment benefits was to avoid riots in the streets.

We just have to declare "amnesty for illegals" to be our Fort Sumter. I don't mind a fairly contested 2010 election, but if they try to stand on the scales using the illegals, then there's nothing left for them to take.
