NY-23: Steele factually wrong while talking with Hannity; Scozzafava is for card check

RNC Chairman Michael Steele needs to do his homework before going back on Sean Hannity's radio show. Today, Hannity asked him about the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee's support of the liberal Republican in the race against Conservative Party and Republican Doug Hoffman for the House seat vacated by John McHugh. Here's a brief excerpt; listen closely to Steele disputing Hannity about Scozzafava's position on card check:

The two sources of proof that Michael Steele is mistaken are Dede Scozzafava and Dede Scozzafava, in writing and on tape.

On Oct 19, 2009, the all things liberal labor In These Times reported:

In These Times obtained a copy of a candidate questionnaire from the AFL-CIO's legislative department. In that document, Scozzafava pledged to co-sponsor EFCA with card check, as did her Democratic opponent Bill Owens. To wit:

If elected, would you co-sponsor and vote for the Employee Free Choice Act (S.800/H.R. 1041), which passed the House by a vote of 241-185 on March 1, 2007 but was blocked by a Senate filibuster in June, 2007 (the Senate failed to invoke cloture by a vote of 51-48 vote)?

The Employee Free Choice Act, introduced by Senator Kennedy in the Senate and Representative George Miller in the House, would require employers to honor their workers’ decision to join a union after a majority of them signed a union authorization card or petition; establishes first contract mediation and arbitration; and creates meaningful penalties against employers who interfere with, coerce or fire workers for attempting to join a union. OWEN [sic]– YES, DEDE - YES

That same day, John McCormack of The Weekly Standard reported:

"I asked Assemblywoman Scozzafava if she supports card check. "Yes, yes I do," she replied."

The Scozzafava campaign quickly backtracked after first alleging that John McCormark yelled at her while asking questions. They did so when he played the full audio of the incident for the Associated Press and they confirmed his version of events.

Before the last shred of their credibility is lost, perhaps Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele should ask John McCormack if they can also listen to that audio.

Here I am, a nobody, and I can easily find the facts. So, was it they could not find them or are they lying? I can’t answer that question but either way Newt and Steele are wrong on on point and with their support for a liberal.

Steele was lying. He probably won't be going back on a National radio before the vote next week and he knew it so he took advantage of the situation to spread some mis-information.

I do not believe for a second he did not know the truth about this worm of a candidate.

and nothing spent on CA-10 where Harmer could be close to a win?
.
Got that right. If heads start rolling, and I believe they will, it will be the money wasted on NY-23 instead of pumping that money into Ca.

It’s one thing to support a nominee verbally, but to waste money is another.

Michael Steele has been a huge disappointment from day one.

I agree. Steele knows exactly how liberal and anti-conservative Scozzafava is. Steele is nothing but a liberal DNC plant in the Republican party.

At the beginning of the interview Steele says she was vetted through the primary process. Not so.

No primary thus there is no primary process.

The only place vetting her would get her a legitamate passing grade would be in Castro’s Cuba.

I agree. IMO these guys aren’t stupid—they know exactly what her positions are and are outright lying about her. Gingrich yesterday flagrantly lied by saying McHugh, the GOP rep this election is replacing, is pro-choice (the implication being that it was then okay for Scozzafava to hold the same positions). Blatant lie—McHugh is 100% pro-life.

The establishment GOP wants leftist candidates in office. That way they can keep backslapping their donk cronies at DC cocktail parties, and bipartisanly keep their snouts in the trough.

Michael Steele turned out to have been overrated. Ken Blackwell wouldn’t have made such errors. But Blackwell is more unpopular in OH than Steele is in MD.

I really don't see why Gingrich is so far into the leftist tank, but it is obvious that he is, cap and trade and all.

This is a FReply all, not a ping list. I hope some of you can help spread the word about the information I have.

I was screaming at my radio when I heard Steele on Hannity yesterday. So much of what Steele was saying was completely untrue. Not just about card check, but about the selection process, and about some of her other positions as well.

No only was Steele factually wrong, I was upset that Hannity hadn’t done his homework and didn’t hold his feet to the fire and confront him with the facts. He let it go and didn’t challenge Steele when he said things that just weren’t true..

I was also disappointed (but not surprised) that he didn’t ask about David Harmer and the California 10th district race. The RNC has been silent on this race. So has the NRCC. Talk radio has also been silent about David Harmer.

I bet some of the people posting on this thread are also asking, "Who is David Harmer and why should Michael Steel or Sean Hannity care about him?" Read on:

I support David Harmer for California’s 10th Congressional District (donations). He is a conservative candidate who has been a fellow at the Heritage Foundation and the Cato institute. He is committed to controlling spending, promoting economic growth, and free market solutions to todays problems.

I am also contacting the NRCC to ask why they are supporting Scozzafava in the race in upstate New York, and why they are ignoring David Harmer in this close race in California’s 10th district. Here are the numbers if anyone else wants to call:

Info from the NRCC "contact us" web page:
Contact the NRCC

Address:

320 First Street, SE
Washington, DC 20003

General Email:
website@nrcc.org

Phone:
Phone: 202-479-7000

Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

From the desk of
cc2k:
Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th (website for info).

Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district.

Michael Steele is a nice guy who’s in way over his head. If the GOP truly wants to win, replace Steele with Tom Delay.

Sorry, I like Delay but that is not his strength. He is much better as the man who troubleshoots or make things happen for the leader. He needs to be the man in the office moving policy and not making policy. He is the greatest at that job.

You might find it easier to get your point across to distill your looooong post into something more readable and “to the point”.

Regardless of the validity of your concerns, I for one, am less than pleased to have your rant posted on nearly every thread and now pinged to the whole FR.
