"It's so wonderful to see these holy priests accept the 'cross' of the Exorcist! But only 12 priests in the whole USA? Wow! No wonder the evil one is running rampant in our culture! But then, we are living in the "culture of death". Right next to this article there is a "Planned Parenthood" advertisement offering "$10.00 off". Off what???" --Kathleen, commentary."

Now that Newt is a Catholic, maybe they can do an exorcism on him. He’s definitely possessed.

Last nite, my daughter and I were discussing “So You Think You Can Dance” on SKYPE, when she blurted out excitedly, oh! mom! i went to go see a talk by a real live excorcist
[10/27/2009 8:28:38 PM] ME: oh?
[10/27/2009 8:28:43 PM] ME: fr. euteneuer?

[10/27/2009 8:29:01 PM] DAUGHTER: no...shoot. i just saw him yesterday and i already forgot
[10/27/2009 8:29:02 PM] ME: did he expel anyone’s demons?
[10/27/2009 8:29:11 PM] DAUGHTER: haha..no, no.
[10/27/2009 8:29:22 PM] DAUGHTER: it was really interesting though
[10/27/2009 8:29:59 PM] DAUGHTER: this was a campus wide thing you could come to if you wanted and a lot of non-students were there too
[10/27/2009 8:30:01 PM] ME: he needs to go work on the obama administration
[10/27/2009 8:30:10 PM] ME: was this held at church?
[10/27/2009 8:30:11 PM] DAUGHTER: you tell him, momma!
[10/27/2009 8:30:15 PM] ME: :)
[10/27/2009 8:30:33 PM] DAUGHTER: no, in an auditorium, there were tons of ppl there, the church would’ve been too small
[10/27/2009 8:30:39 PM] ME: wow
[10/27/2009 8:30:47 PM] ME: so was he a good speaker?
[10/27/2009 8:31:11 PM] DAUGHTER: yes, he was very likeable
[10/27/2009 8:31:19 PM] ME: and the kids ... did they seem to like it?
[10/27/2009 8:31:59 PM] DAUGHTER: yes, everyone seemed really interested..a lot of ppl who went really didn’t know what to expect bc they didn’t understand the role of an excorcist outside of hollywood images ...

I was at an AA meeting once and as was the custom the meeting ended with the Lord’s prayer. I was talking to a young man afterward he proceeded to tell me he didn’t believe in the devil.

I said “You said the Lord’s prayer a few minutes ago. In that prayer it says ‘deliver us from evil’. Where do you think that evil comes from?”

He thought for a minute and very humbly said, “I see your point.”

Evil is there and it comes from the great liar. Unfortunately too many people fall for his lies. And they vote for democrats.

Now that Newt is a Catholic, maybe they can do an exorcism on him. He’s definitely possessed.

The qualifications are pretty stringent. R U sure he'd pass?

"For one to become possessed by the devil, one has to have a dedication to the devil, be cursed or lead a life that is full of sin; it is something more than just a struggle against temptation," Lampert said. Performing an exorcism takes a lot of preparation by not only the subject, but by the exorcist too, Lampert said. Before each exorcism, Lampert has to go through a series of prayers and attend confession so the devil will not be able to reach him. "In order for a person to be exorcised, they have to be fully committed to turning to Christ," Lampert said. "If they resist, the exorcism cannot be performed." When determining if a person is in fact possessed, Lampert looks for several criteria. "A person may be possessed if they have an ability to speak unknown languages, unhuman-like strength, the knowledge of the unknown, and an inexplicable aversion to holy places," Lampert said ...

Yes, it's interesting; many consider Christ, yet not Satan. You opened his eyes!

Thanks for the fascinating and heartening article. Some people may be creeped out by it, but I enjoy reading about the fact that there is one more soldier armed for the battle against the Evil One.

I’m very new to being a Catholic—still in midstream in the Tiber ;-) —but this reminds me to go to our Adoration Chapel tomorrow, and then afterward to pray my knees off.

You are welcome ... for my daughter to interrupt our conversation on SYTYCD [WHILE it was in progress] showed she was really impressed with it all. She also told me that the University of Illinois had an "open air" type confession (a couple months ago) where six priests were in a large circle "on the quad" at UofI available face-to-face or with a screen and there was a huge picture of Jesus at the center of the circle and there were Newman Center helpers to answer any questions that students had walking by. She said it was so beautiful, holy, and even spectacular. She said there weren't many actually going to confession (I was afraid to ask her, but she assured me she was one of them who did) but that many students were interested in what was going on. All very positive.

Congratulations on your midstream position. I became Catholic on my wedding day 25 years ago. I tell my husband it's a great faith for sinners because there's so many ways to untangle and dump the sin. (That was one of my biggest draws.:)) Enjoy Adoration. We have a chapel too. I once typed an article for my husband on chapels, and realized that Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapels everywhere spells out P.E.A.C.E. A coincidence?

Where do you think that evil comes from?

From the human mind.

While the evidence for God in the universe is, I believe, overwhelming, there is no hint of evil therein prior to human beings.

If you can demonstrate otherwise, please do so.

While this does not prove evil came before Adam and Eve, it is the Catholic belief that that is so:

Rev. 12:7-9
Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.
