Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson had the guts to do what Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the entire Republican Party would not do. One month ago, Thompson became the first prominent national Republican to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the New York District 23 Congressional race. Palin made an even bigger impact by endorsing Hoffman a week and a half ago. In doing so, Palin lived up to her penchant for going against the mainstream and taking on powerbrokers inside her own party.

Rommney is working the sure thing so he can claim he helped bring home the victory, instead of working a real race. In other words Rommney is be the selfserving jerk he has always been. Rommney and Obama are cut from the same cloth IMHO.
Mittens is best kept in behind the curtain (except in UT and maybe NV) raising money for the GOP, which he does seem to have a knack for.
Oh, he clearly wanted Lieberman. Multiple accounts made that clear. But he realized it wouldn’t work. He couldn’t stand Romney so he was out. It was basically down to Pawlenty as the safe, make no waves choice and Palin as the go for broke shake things up choice.
His pollsters all told him that if he picked Pawlenty, even if everything broke their way and everything went right for them and everything went wrong for Obama, it’d be extremely tough to top 48% or so. Palin was the only one who gave him a chance to win due to potential swings among white women mainly, but also increased numbers among conservatives.
Which is exactly what happened(20 pt swing among white women) and why he was ahead until the middle of Spetember when Lehman, AIG and the rest of the economy totally collapsed and the market crashd by 30% in a matter of weeks.
Huckabee, Romney and Newt all outed themselves as fake or cowardly conservatives. They are all disqualified.
With Palin-Thompson, we'll sweep the North, and the South, with two Conservatives on the same ticket. IMO
I’d rather Bachman lest Thompson fall asleep as it seemed in the last campaign.
This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
I think Reagan was 68 when he took office.
If Fred were elected he’d be 69 when he takes office in 2012.
He could do it, but he’d have to show a lot more enthusiasm early than the last time.
I wish I had your faith in McCain’s savvy.
McCain mishandled the September crash..in a huge way, imho.
But I don’t see any reason to fight a battle that happened last year.
For whatever reason...he brought Palin front and center.
Do I think she can win a presidential election? I don’t know. It worries me. Who else do we have waiting in the wings?
But she can darn sure bring out support. That may be her role in this drama.
Two women on the same ticket would nevre work. I for one would never wish to debate Fred Thompson.
We'll see. After Obama, if there's anything left, and the illegal voters return home because they're starving...the two of us could probably get elected.
“Remember NY-23!
Huckabee, Romney and Newt all outed themselves as fake or cowardly conservatives. They are all disqualified. “
Absolutely! This race was very instructive. We were able to flush out 3 pretenders-all of whom should be dispelled quickly in the 2012 primaries.
Bump for later Sunday reading.
Fred Thompson bragged that McCain/Feingold should be called, McCain/Feingold/Thompson. He chaired McCain’s 2000 campaign. Ann Coulter did a column about how McFred was barely conservative enough to get by in his safe TN seat. Promote him at your peril.
I love your enthusiasm, but I'm not so sure about "sweeping" the North. Which states in the North do you think Palin-Thompson would sweep?
Can you imagine Bachman as SOS?
I can...
Who is on the ground where was my question. Fred did Ad spots for Hoffman so that counts too. Anyone can sit at home and twitter an endorsement.
BTTT
You're right, that probably was a bit of an exuberant prognostication. I think that they would take enough enough of the Northern states to win though.
California would be the make or break state, IMO.
To be fair, it is not like she was first. She waited until it was safe to do so. If she was really gutsy, she would have stated her support one week prior and not wait for that first guy who did (name escapes me).
