Conservative Woman ^ | 11-04-2009 | Julie Smith

Not something that would make national headlines, but did not miss a stunned audience, President Barack Obama became the first American president in 118 years to abstain from the same long tradition of addressing the Daughters Of the American Revolution (DAR) Continental Congress, named after the governing body of the American Colonies during the American Revolution.

French ties several different ways ~ recalling that the Protestant Revolution in France started at the TOP right within the Bourbonaise, it's pretty much the case that it's on "both sides" ~ that civil war (Religious War 1500s) split right down the middle of "the Family".

The gentleman who designed the Fort for New Sweden is also a De La Gardie ~ and that's a pretty good New Sweden connection.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all genealogists agree with the following information, but nonetheless, it's a very interesting article, particularly like this tidbit near the end of the article:

With his widespread ancestry in Colonial America, Obama "is certainly related to millions of contemporary Americans -- perhaps even a significant percentage of the population," Roberts wrote.

Can Virginia add Obama to its leadership legacy?

A genealogical scholar says presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a distant relative of both Robert E. Lee and President James Madison.
BY FRANK DELANO

....According to a venerable genealogical society, the Illinois senator and presumptive Democratic nominee for president is a distant cousin of both President James Madison, who was born in King George County in 1751, and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, who was born in 1807 at Stratford in Westmoreland County.

....A scholar of the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston traced lots of Obama's maternal ancestors. The society announced earlier this year that Gary Boyd Roberts found that Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham of Kansas, had many ties to old families in Virginia and other Colonies.

One of those lines goes back to a 17th-century Englishman named Richard Eltonhead, the ancestor shared by Obama, Madison and Lee.....Consequently, Obama and James Madison are third cousins nine times removed, Roberts wrote.

The Corbin connection makes Obama and Lee fifth cousins eight times removed, Roberts discovered. It also ties him to Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, two Stratford brothers who signed the Declaration of Independence.

....Tallent said some patrons of the Westmoreland County Museum have been surprised when told of Obama's possible local connection.

"People either don't believe it or they think it's wrong," she said. "But one visitor said, 'So Obama's just an old Westmoreland County boy after all.'"

....Obama has more famous kin than John McCain, the Boston genealogist found. McCain, the likely GOP nominee for president, is sixth cousin to first lady Laura Bush.

But Obama is also related to both her husband and her father-in-law, as well as to Presidents Truman, Johnson and Ford, according to Roberts.

With his widespread ancestry in Colonial America, Obama "is certainly related to millions of contemporary Americans--perhaps even a significant percentage of the population," Roberts wrote.

Roberts said Obama's African ancestry can be traced for several generations. The village where Barack Obama Sr. was born is about 200 miles from Tanzania's Olduvai Gorge, where anthropologists have discovered fossil remains of human ancestors dating back 2.5 million years. Therefore, on his father's side, Obama might be a cousin to everybody on Earth.

I doubt it, because only his Arab and Moslem roots (and not his black African roots, which are less than his 50 per cent roots in white America) are of any interest to him.

Barack Obama and Brad Pitt Are Cousins, Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie Are Also Cousins, Study Says

Google Cache of Story

BOSTON -- This could make for one odd family reunion: Barack Obama is a distant cousin of actor Brad Pitt, and Hillary Rodham Clinton is related to Pitt's girlfriend, Angelina Jolie.

Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society found some remarkable family connections for the three presidential candidates _ Democratic rivals Obama and Clinton, and Republican John McCain.

Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother's side, is also a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.

[____snip____]

"It shows that lots of different people can be related, people you wouldn't necessarily expect," Child said.

Obama has a prolific presidential lineage that features Democrats and Republicans. His distant cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and Civil War General Robert E. Lee.

Obama often jokes about his cousin Cheney at campaign appearances.

"His kinships are across the political spectrum," Child said.

Child has spent the last three years tracing the candidates' genealogy, along with senior research scholar Gary Boyd Roberts, author of the 1989 book, "Ancestors of American Presidents."

Clinton's distant cousins include beatnik author Jack Kerouac and Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles of England.

McCain's ancestry was more difficult to trace because records on his relatives were not as complete as records for the families of Obama and Clinton, Child said.

Obama and President Bush are 10th cousins, once removed, linked by Samuel Hinkley of Cape Cod, who died in 1662.

Pitt and Obama are ninth cousins, linked by Edwin Hickman, who died in Virginia in 1769. Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, declined to comment on the senator's ancestry.

Clinton and Jolie are ninth cousins, twice removed, both related to Jean Cusson who died in St. Sulpice, Quebec, in 1718.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society, founded in 1845, is the oldest and largest nonprofit genealogical organization in the country.

Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, two Stratford brothers who signed the Declaration of Independence.

The Lee's and the rest of the signers are rolling in their graves because of the disgrace Hussein has brought upon this nation. It's quite unfortunate that they couldn't have passed down their love of these United States to him.

Wow! Gee! How amazing! I bet eventually he'll even claim Adam and Eve as kin!!! Sorry, but as much as I enjoy genealogy, this is too much. Every family has a few skeletons and black sheep (no pun intended) somewhere down the line.

What I have read several places is that if you have one ancestor whom you can trace to before 1680 in America, then you are literally related to many millions of Americans living today -- perhaps Muawiyah or Blam posted about this.

I think it's just astounding, but it's really just a genealogical fact -- the population was small, the available pool for marriages was such that anyone who can trace back to the 1500s or early 1600s America is related.

Astounding, hey? I thought it was a remarkable bit of trivia, how many Americans that Barack Hussein Obama is related to.

Obama is, remarkably, related to vast numbers of white Americans and few, if any, black Americans. He's even got the blood of Mohicans and Mohawks in him

~ His African relatives are Luo tribal people. I believe they tend to marry first cousins ~ so he probably has only a couple of dozen relatives there as close as his millions of American relatives.

Uhh, not everybody.

BTW, the professionals probably missed the McCain family "name swap" with John Alexander McCain.

That's NOT always a middle name like we'd do it in modern times.

Sometimes it means the guy married "up" ~ like John did (alas, to money).

I think it's even money the guy is actually an Alexander descendant in the male line ~ and as such he's got as many relatives as Obama ~ and vice versa.

Actually, they end up with pretty much the SAME relatives, and so does Bill Clinton, the Bushes, Ronald Reagan, Jerry (King) Ford, Richard Millhouse/Mullis Nixon, Eisenhower, Truman, the Roosevelts, etc., etc.

Just off the top of the head, I’ve got at least five different family lines that go back that far, and at least four out of five of them served to overthrow British monarchic rule.

We may be related but there's a difference in the Colonials and the settlers that were entrepreneurs like my family. Whale oil.

In the 19th century, a self-described professional genealogist invented a king of France in order to include some kind of royal ancestor in the genealogies he prepared for his clients. Invented the kids of the imaginary king as well. Frickin’ genius con man.

Of course, this doesn’t have any relevance to what you posted.............
