Muslim groups fear backlash after Fort Hood rampage
National Post/AFP ^ | 11/5/2009 | AFP

Fearing that a gunman who killed 11 people at a military facility in Texas may have been Muslim, US Islamic groups were bracing themselves for a public backlash against the faith today.

Soon after Pentagon officials named one of the shooters at the Fort Hood facility as Nidal Malik Hasan, Islamic groups rallied to condemn an act President Obama had earlier described as a "horrific outburst of violence".

"The guy's name is a Muslim name," Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) told AFP, expressing fears about damage to inter-faith relations, already strained by the September 11 attacks, and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a statement, CAIR condemned the shootings as a "cowardly attack" adding that "no political or religious ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence.***

Qaseem Ali Uqdah, who was a Marine for 21-years before becoming the Executive Director at American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council, now fears a "witch-hunt" like that which followed September 11, 2001.

"This is a criminal act and we have to treat it like a criminal act, not something to do with religion" he told AFP.

For the estimated 3500 Muslims in the US armed forces, Uqdah said there could be some fallout from the attack.

"What we don't need is people downrange sitting in foxholes (in Afghanistan or Iraq) questioning if you are a Christian, if you are a Muslim or if you are a Jew... that is not what we need as a nation.

"We need to fight the war on terror together," he added.

In a Pew survey published last September, 38 per cent of respondents said that Islam encouraged violence more than other religions.

Fifty-eight per cent said there was a lot of discrimination against Muslims in the United States.

We have to be so politically correct in the West, even if it means our deaths. It's much worse in Europe, where they probably will be conquered, and it's illegal to criticize Islam. The West's weakness is Islam's only strength. By itself, the religion would die a parasitic death without a host. It produces nothing but hatred and fear.

Here is a very good link about why Muslims become terrorists: Understanding Muslims: From Freedom to Guilt to Jihad. I like all the author's (Dr. Ali Sina) writings.

I would actually like to see some folks get a little riled up now and then. It might inspire some leadership of the Muslim faith to start demonstrating some patriotism and solidarity among “fellow” Americans here in the US.

When I see these morons overseas screaming and shouting "Death to America!" I have to think they disrespect us for NOT acting in similarly barbaric fashion at times like this. But that, of course, is why we are different. Many of us believe in the one thing that separates us from them--the belief in our value as individuals, which means the belief in personal responsibility for actions. We hate individual perpetrators, not those who are linked to them only by the accident of birth.

I look at their childish, animalistic behavior, and then at our response in similar times, and I feel, once again, superior. :)

I think it is. I wouldn't want to be downrange from a Muslim, but a Christian or a Jew would be ok. And my guess is that most Jews wouldn't fear being down range from a Christian, but would a Muslim.

It’s unfair that 99% of the adherents to the “religion of peace” are allowed to give the other 1% a bad name.

I have tried to believe that. But I have known a handful of Muslims and asked two of them about what their faith teaches. I didn't get the idea they completely understood Jihad. Neither of the two spoke in absolutes about condemnation of Jihad and murder of innocents in the name of it or of what/who was an infidel.

I give up on giving the benefit of the doubt. I want a Muslim peace movement from Muslims in this country and around the world that rivals the civil rights movement or the Anti-war movement of the 50's and 60's. I want to see Egypt and Pakistan go Jihad on "Extremists" of their own faith. Shut up and put your A$$ out there and take action. Otherwise Muslims in America should crawl back to the safety and security of their own homes protected by our laws and constitution, face the east and thank Allah they live in America.

What a steaming pile of crap. Not one sincere word of compassion for the victims. Not one sincere condemnation of the terrorist act. (FR’s resident RINOS, softies, and trolls, note use of the word “sincere”). Just a lot of “WAHHHH, we Muslims are the real victims here. The evil imperialist boogeyman is out to get us!”

Instead of whining about a nonexistent backlash, maybe the terrorist organization called CAIR should try showing a little gratitude and respect for the country called America that has given them so much, including physical protection, religious freedom, quotas, affirmative action, pro-Islamic sensitivity training for the infidels, hate-crime laws that protect Muslims uber alles, never being singled out for searches at airports, etc. None of which they are worthy of. Our Republican politicians call Islam a “religion of peace” and our Democrats go even further, giving Muslims credit for things they didn’t invent and implying that they’re our superiors. Yet even with all this ass-kissing, Muslims still hate our guts. It’s time to end this Islamo-worship. The next time those CAIR types get whiny and play the victim card, we should just say, “Go stick it where the sun don’t shine, you neo-Nazis. You’re going to hate us no matter what, so why should we kiss your ass?”

Of course there will be talk about “good Muslims.” “But some Muslims won’t kill us!” Yes, and some rattlesnakes won’t bite you. But playing with a rattlesnake is still stupid, just like trusting a Muslim. You never know when Sudden Jihad Syndrome will rear its ugly head and your friendly Muslim neighbor who “always seemed so nice” massacres a bunch of schoolgirls in the name of Allah.

Islam is the common enemy of every civilized human being on the planet. It is utterly incompatible with modern civilization, human rights, individual liberties, and a republican form of government. Those “Americans” who would side with Islam over their own country, whether they personally practice Islam or not, are traitors and deserve nothing less than the noose.

Obama is trying to get the medias to do damage control,,, but how do you explain Islams march for the last fourteen hundred years? How do you explain Iran today celebrating death to America? And their desire with a hand full of other nations who want a caliphate? And the Taliban reaching out with a threat to Australia today? on and on....

Islam? Definitely the religion of peace! ... once they have conquered all

And guess what? Our leader is a muslim.

go figure.

Can we do that to Barry Sorento aka Barak Hussein Obama? Also, isn’t a name change like that a sign of conversion to Islam as an adult? Hmmm, don’t think the jihadists have much to worry about in the backlash department.

Funny they are ALWAYS worried about a backlash that never comes. Maybe the problem IS US. There should be a backlash about Muslims in the military or high government positions.

They are like a little kid poking a snake with a stick one day they are going to poke it too quickly and too often and the snake will strike.

Don’t fret, muzzies. Obamuhammed promised to “stand with you...” come hell or high water. That includes calling Islamic terrorism “man made disasters.” The deaths in Texas today were no different than the people who died from hurricane Katrina. A disaster is a disaster is a disaster. Man made or natural. It was just an “accident.”

“A much overdue backlash by Americans would be a welcome sight.”

What? Kill people because they are suspected of being the enemy?

I have clients and several friends, from Arab country origins, that have funny names, and they are Christians. Copts, Maronites, etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Christians.

My guess is they would be prime targets, for such a “backlash.”

Is that what you want?

Don't fret....the fundie, white trash rubes from Jesusland will not run around murdering people with “funny names”.

The ideal backlash will be to eschew political correctness about Islamic Terrorism, who's members have roamed the globe for decades, murdering innocents with impunity.

All the while being hailed as victims of oppression by Israel and the US.
