I’m making a strong effort to believe my own spin, too. :-)

But maybe I’m right. Because if it never came to a vote in the House, you just know that the Blue Dogs would claim to their voters back home: “Oh no - I would NEVER vote for a government take-over of health care,” and get away with it.

Plus there’s some historical precedent: The voters bookted the Dems in ‘94 for a never-passed health care bill. Just the Democrats proposing it was enough to rouse the voters’ ire.

there were about a billion ways to take care of those people without trampling our freedom and killing our economy.

Our family, with three kids, were literally $200 over the yearly income limit to qualify for assistance of any kind. This went on for years.

What happens is that the local hospitals and med centers apply sliding-scale fees based on need. This worked out great and although we had no health *insurance* for years (I had medicare through disability, though) the kids got all the care they required including fixing broken arms from sports, etc.

NO ONE is denied health *care* in this country. And based on experience I believe that everybody, even those who don't have insurance, are dealt with fairly and effectively.

Making the system more economically efficient ONE STEP AT A TIME is definitely in order. But not a destruction of the best health care in the world and a recreation of the failed socialist health care programs responsible for the death and under-treatment of hundreds of millions worldwide.

My Congressman”s speach today -

Congressman Dean Heller

Second District of Nevada

E-News Update

Heller Takes to the Floor in Opposition To Pelosi Health Care

( Washington ,
DC ) – Today U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) took to the floor and gave the following speech in opposition to the Pelosi Health Care Takeover Act (H.R. 3962):

Thank you, Mr. Speaker –

Thank you, Ranking Member Camp, for your hard work producing a Republican alternative that does not raise taxes, raise premiums, increase our debt, or increase healthcare costs.

Recently, Democrat leadership stated that getting votes today will be easier because Democrats want to go home.

The Pelosi healthcare bill cost Americans 5 million jobs.

Despite national unemployment at 10.3% and my home state of
Nevada over 13% unemployment – we are moving forward with this bill.

For the majority, this is fine – if Members of Congress get to go home.

This legislation raises billions in new taxes on small businesses, and increases healthcare premiums by $15,000 per family on average.

As long as the majority gets to go home, this does not matter.

This bill cuts $500 billion from Medicare, affecting more than 20,000 seniors in my district, and also avoids meaningful medical liability reform.

But the majority will support it to go home.

The bill’s individual mandates will result in 9 million Americans paying a new tax or facing criminal penalties. These penalties include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail – for failure to pay the tax.

However, this doesn’t matter as long as the majority gets to go home today.

Mr. Speaker, this bill lacks enforceable citizenship verification provisions. As many as 8.5 million illegal immigrants would be eligible for taxpayer-subsidized healthcare under this legislation.

But if the majority gets to go home, it simply doesn’t matter.

Yet the height of hypocrisy is that Members are not required to participate in this government-run healthcare program.

Unfortunately, the strategy to pass this massive bill hinges upon Members of Congress wanting to go home instead of passing legislation that will help the American people.

Oh, dear God, one lightning bolt, that's all I ask! Just one!

You mean like the wrong plane was forced down into a field on 9/11? I wish I didn't have such a thought now and then...

Pelosi is personally responsible for my personal pledge not to take Rogain (I’m a guy) or implement other cosmetic changes as does the highly Botoxed Pelosi. It doesn’t make you look younger; just old & creepy.

My 9 year old is good with analogies. She says, “So, let me get this straight. If the health care system was like dad’s car (7 years old) and had a flat tire and broken radio and needed new paint—the democrats would want to take it to the scrap yard and have one of those machines crush it to a tiny cube, and THEN try to build a new car out of the same car?”

I told her yes, then Obama’s government would charge dad for paying for a ‘new’ car. Her eyeballs rolled back in her head. ;-)

Strech Pelosi speaking...fear not, my friends. Remember, it's a good thing if the House passes this bill today. The bill will still get held up by the Senate or in conference, and the Blue Dogs will get branded for voting for this Statist bill -thus paving the way for the Republicans to re-take the House.

Perhaps, but one more firewall breached on the road to hades.............

I would just as soon it dies tonight. I can’t bear the thought that the Senate might pass something that we all know will become a monster in conference.

Just praise for Ted Kennedy, etc. Which is a kind of emotional blackmail. Pass this bill, or you must hate this beloved member of Congress who recently died.

Email from Jodie Brown of American Life League (ALL):

It was just discovered that Speaker Pelosi's government-run "health" plan, that may be voted on tomorrow, WILL require you to give $1 every month to go for ABORTION!

But when you read the details of Medicaid you find exceptions for children in families that are above the income limit. A high deductable insurance policy for adults doesn’t cost a lot. I have one and it’s very affordable. I’m not saying Medicaid is perfect, but I’d much rather see expanded Medicaid coverage instead of this massive nationalization of the health care industry. There are ways to fix problems in the current system without the great loss of personal freedom that would result from Pelosicare.

Seems the GOP is divided on whether or not to vote for the Stupak amendment. I personally would like to see them vote no. Don't give the blue dogs cover.

http://www.nationalreview.com/doctor/
The Word [Robert Costa]

Just spoke with two GOP House members about what the mood is in the GOP caucus about the Stupak amendment. Both acknowledged a small internal divide — there is worry among some that a 'yes' on Stupak is a 'yes' for moving PelosiCare forward. However, they said that most GOP members will support the Stupak amendment in order to give it a strong backing from a bipartisan pro-life bloc as it heads to conference, should it pass.
