Microsoft has banned as many as 1 million users with modified Xbox 360s from Xbox Live, the online gaming service, in a bid to counter piracy.
The ban from the Xbox Live service is reported to have affected anywhere from 600,000 to 1 million Xbox 360 users.
The so-called "modded" consoles allow gamers to play illegal copies of games. Microsoft said the practice violates the Xbox Live terms of use and that it reserves the right to cut service to its online gaming service. The BBC reported that Microsoft said banning gamers was part of an ongoing effort to curb piracy.
The move comes on the heels of the launch of the most anticipated game of the year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which sold a reported 310 million copies in its first 24 hours.

Why do I doubt this?
I don’t doubt it one bit - it is an awesome game, and yeh, I’m 56 and I play ...
I'm 56 and can't wait for this weekend when I can unbox my first Xbox and install it and try this game out. I've never been a "gamer", but I thought it time to see what it's all about.
it’s 310 million dollars for 4.7 million copies of the game
You’ll love it, the missions are interesting and the graphics rock.
Have you played Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare yet? Its the first in this series - a “must play”.
I play them both on line with a PC.
Quite a discrepancy between 310 million copies sold and 4.7 million.
Bet there`s gonna be a ton of banned Xboxes cheap
on E-Bay real soon.
I almost moded out mine,glad I didn`t
I`m 61 and it`s an awesome game to play
A lot of hardcore player buy the game online - that may be where the discrepancy is.
"According to preliminary sales figures from Activision, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.7 million units in both the United States and the United Kingdom at launch. The total revenue from first day sales in these two regions are at $310 million"
Had to figure this was coming. I wonder why it took so long.
Anyway, I thought I was approaching the high end of gaming age at 40. Looks like some people are still going strong.
LOL
I’m 49 and have considered buying a gaming console but thought it would be silly for someone my age.
I used to play a lot of PC games years ago.
Might have to buy one for myself at Christmas.
Then there are the adults.

350 million is more than the population of the USA and would be 1 out of every 17 humans on the planet

310 million is more than the population of the USA (300M) and would be 1 out of every 19 humans on the planet
We wanted a Blu-ray player and spent a few extra bucks for the PS3. If Blu-ray flops, we can keep it for DVDs or get some of the money back by selling the game console.
I saw a recent review that said the PS3 was the best Blu-Ray player on the market. It has since been surpassed, but remains about as good a player as you can buy.
Plus, Netflix just added the ability to stream their movies directly to the PS3.
So do I,not that well but I do enjoy my time with the game.
I would enjoy it even more if they had team combat on it.Right now it’s just a bunch of spawn killers.
When I first hooked it up, quality was OK at best (compared to HD DVD). Added a good HDMI cable.... wow!
Haven’t looked at Netflix yet but I did connect the PS3 to the internet. I didn’t think about it before purchase, PS3 updates the Blu-ray player. Not sure a regular player would do that.
I hear you. I’m raising kids, so there is no way that this trash is going to be in my house.
There are clans out there that sponsor “team” play and team tournaments.
