Climategate: how the MSM reported the greatest scandal in modern science
Telegraph UK ^ | Nov 21, 2009 | James Delingpole

Posted on 11/21/2009 5:31:48 AM PST by PapaBear3625

Like the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal, this is the gift that goes on giving. It won’t, unfortunately, derail Copenhagen (too many vested interests involved) or cause any of our many political parties to start talking sense on “Climate change”. But what it does demonstrate is the growing level of public scepticism towards Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming theory. That’s why, for example, this story is the single most read item on today’s Telegraph website.

[...]

But in the case of “Climate Change”, the MSM has been caught with its trousers down. The reason it has been so ill-equipped to report on this scandal is because almost all of its Environmental Correspondents and Environmental Editors are parti pris members of the Climate-Fear Promotion lobby. Most of their contacts (and information sources) work for biased lobby groups like Greenpeace and the WWF, or conspicuously pro-AGW government departments and Quangos such as the Carbon Trust. How can they bring themselves to report on skullduggery at Hadley Centre when the scientists involved are the very ones whose work they have done most to champion and whose pro-AGW views they share?

Newt has become quite the embarrassment, right along with Lindsey. They should both just, as we used to say, take a long walk on a short pier.

Does this mean the polar bears (and walruses) aren’t all going to die unless I send all my money to WWF?

Some of the top folks at CRU will very likely never practice science again, and the worst offenders will likely end up in jail.

I wish I shared your optimism. These days a group Nobel Prize is just as likely.

Fox News, the only legitimate News Network, reported on it.

BBC reported the hack, and that “opposite sides” were arguing about what the released information meant. But they didn’t report anything about the emails actually contained.

As far as I can tell, CBS, ABC and NBC haven’t touched the story at all. But it’s all over the web.

The failure to report is just going to help confirm to people the irrelevancy and the partisanship and bias of the MSM.

Well, to take a line from Dan Blather, “it could have been true”.

Mike,

Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4?

Keith will do likewise. He’s not in at the moment - minor family crisis.

Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same? I don’t

have his new email address.

We will be getting Caspar to do likewise.

I see that CA claim they discovered the 1945 problem in the Nature paper!!

Cheers

Second quote is key. This is how environmental reporters - indeed, reporters in general - work. Get a few key sources, use them for quotes or stories all the time. Result: lazy, biased news reporting.

I didn't see your post before essentially saying the same thing.

Yes, a reporter's career is based on cultivating good sources over the years, people who will tell him what's going on and why. Of course, if the reporter wants to KEEP the source, he won't tell the READERS what's really going on, he will tell them what his most valuable sources WANT him to say. If the reporter is smart enough to avoid too-obvious insider trading, his access can be VERY lucrative, whether directly or by passing info along to other people who would be suitably grateful.

Look at CNN in Iraq under Sadaam, or Duranty of the NY Times "reporting" about the USSR under Stalin. They reported what they were told, without regard for truth, in order to maintain their "access". The reporter is in the business of selling newspapers, not telling the truth. Their business model depends on their readers never figuring this out.

I can’t wait to hear Lindsey Graham’s excuse for this. And Gingrich, as well.

And Sarah Palin's.

She has been way out front on this issue amongst the current and recent crop of Presidential aspirants. It would be so nice to get a Sarah soundbite or Facebook posting that would summarize this fraud in a nice neat nutshell that would resonate with the man on the street. Time for a little gloating Sarah, let's hear from you.

Looks like the global commies will have to find another way to tax and trade the air that we breathe. Billions of dollars involved here, so expect some mobster type ‘hits’ on the whistleblowers before it’s all over. Globull Warming is ‘too big to fail’.

“I wish I shared your optimism. These days a group Nobel Prize is just as likely.”

The science prizes aren’t like the Peace Prize. ;-)

Seriously, I think the vast majority of scientists are honest and support the scientific method. They’re well aware that the entire credibility of science rests on it. Don’t forget the thousands of scientists who signed anti-CAGW petitions based strictly on the science.

When an a group of “scientists” subverts the scientific method to this extent, the scientific community will turn on them like a wolf pack that’s suddenly realized some of them are poodles. They have to, and it’ll be just about that ugly.

This WILL get legs. The usual suspects will start reporting on this next week, loudly. It is better to take this weekend and dig into the pile. Anything reported on a friday night is a news dump. The MSM should have reported it yesterday, but they didn’t. Now the news will break next week on beck, rush, hannity, and well, we all know what happens when that happens-olbermann, matthews, odonnell, and company go berserk, start screeching like scorched cats about the reports and more people tune into the other side to see what they are losing their minds about, especially if they are calling algore a liar and they have proof.

I hope they run across Gore’s name.

It should then be jail time for him for running this scam.

And think how many nations are involved scamming its own citizens.

I also smell Soro’s participation.
