Having urged the president to honor his commitment to the Afghan war, we Republicans must honor our commitment to support him as he fights it. Given the public unenthusiasm for the conflict, there will be political temptations to go rogue on the president, if not now, then in the summer of 2010. That will be our test, for us to pass as the president has passed his. I know many Republicans and conservatives will say: Hey the Democrats did not give President Bush support when he most needed it. Correct. They didnt. And the country suffered for it. The right way to react to that dereliction of duty is not by emulating it, but by repudiating it. For it before I was against it has deservedly become an epithet for shameful wavering. Lets not inflict it upon ourselves.

somebody PLEASE buy this man a one-way ticket back to Toronto...
(of course, just like Ogie Ogelthorpe, the Canadians just might refuse to take him...)
The best support that Republicans can give to Obama is to thwart his efforts to impose draconian Cap and Tax energy regulations on American Enterprise and also thwart his efforts to impose a disastrous transformation of our health care system into a government-run debacle. I just hope that a republican revolution in 2010 doesn’t turn things around so much that people give credit in 2012 to Obama and reelect him.
The only commitment I see is a delayed cut and run.
Yup! ;)
Obama showed a stunning grasp of the obvious yesterday, and started channeling G W Bush
And he had a straight face too! So I think he actually thinks he was insightful
He reminds me of the college kids we get in to work every year- to whom every new experience is a revalation
Didn’t he run his whole campaign stating how wrong this was?
Frum kissing Obama’s arse again I see.
Check out who Hot Air is pimping now.
Frum assumes that we are going to attack the President on committing troops. That is not the case. The things that hinder our troops are still in place — the terrible Rules of Engagement that are getting our service members killed — the halfhearted dithering that has been going on is going to embolden the enemy and the artificial withdrawal date — those are problems I have with his policy!
My sentiments, exactly. David Frum is one of the phoniest, pseudo-intellectual poseurs on the contemporary scene. As always, he is trying to sound profound & rational. I was already tearing up his type in debates by my freshman year in College.
What is really pathetic, about David Frum, is that he doesn't even get the fact that for a "Conservative" at least, it is not entirely fitting that he, as a transplanted Canadien, should be lecturing American Conservatives on what to believe and how to act. Moreover, I doubt if he even understands my point.

He’s already preemptively surrendered. He’s just backdated it to 2011.
The speech was frighteningly eminisenct of LBJ. LBJ tried to fight a war and not fight a war at the same time. The problem with Vietnam was that it was a no-win war. The purpose of war is victory, not the endless prolongation of hostilities. No-win wars are about the most immoral policy a leader can implement.
Nobody wants another Vietnam, but with BOs timetable for withdrawal in place, that is exactly what we have. BO gave McChrystal only 3/4 of what he said he needs to win the war.
Id like to support his troop surge as I supported the surge in Iraq. It worked magnificently. And if we withdraw, the Taliban will most likey come back into power and well be in the same situation that we were in before 9/11.
But as it is now, all that figures to happen after July 2011, but with many more American lives lost between now and then. If that is the case, then we should just withdraw now ad save thousands of lives.
Prior to the surge, I was referring to Dubya as Lyndon Baines Bush, not only for his no-win policy (up until then) in Iraq but for the biggest entitlement program since LBJ. BO makes both of them look like pikers in entitlements and like brilliant sages in foreign policy.
If David Frum speaks (writes), and no one hears (sees) him, will he even exist?
In my world he won't
TBP wins the thread.
I will always support the troops, I will never support obie won.
