Did Nebraska Get Screwed ? (NCAA Big XII )
December 06 2009 | self

Was it me or did the refs give Texas a second chance after Texas QB Colt McCoy ran a play trailing by two points with only six seconds left, rolled out and threw the ball away and out of bounds as the clock ticked down to 0.00 and then the referee`s whistle blew.

Texas coach Mack Brown demanded an extra second to kick a field goal and the officials obliged him. Texas kicked the field goal and won the game.

I only saw the reply once with audio and clearly heard the official`s whistle blow after the clock showed 0.00 on the clock.

Nebraska got screwed.

No. The ball clearly went out of bounds at the one second mark. Unfortunately there was nothing wrong with the call. If you want to be pissed at someone then be mad at the Nebraska player who horse-collared the Texas receiver. That gave the Longhorns an extra 15 yards. Without that they’re 62 yards out and not a chance of a field goal.

The whole BCS thing stinks. The two teams I am rooting for, play each other. TCU and BS. The big boys do not want to play them.

However, Texas is #20 in total offense; Bama is #35. I bet I know what Young Coach Saban better ask for when he sits on Santa's knee...

It was the correct call....now Texas can roll over the tide in the NC game.....Colt can finally win his Heisman...and Shipley the Biletnikoff award...beautiful.

If the Texas team of last night shows up against Alabama then it's going to be a very, very long night for you Longhorn fans.

How many yards did Texas A&M put up against Texas?

As for as the SEC, Florida put up 480 yards against Oklahoma earlier this year.

My son and I had a similar conversation earlier today. He thinks it was the right call and I think it is bunk.

The reason is much the same as you mentioned; In the 4th quarter there were plenty of instances where they could have went back and reviewed the tape to see the EXACT second that the clock was stopped.

I don’t like this idea that it is only in the waning seconds of a game that the every minutial (is that a word) of the game is reviewed but 8 or 10 minutes earlier the game is run by a “close enough” methodology (think of ball placement after a tackle).

Let the refs call the game.

BYU lost to FSU 43 to 28. FSU lost to Florida 37 to 10.

Hey, cherry-pick whatever stats you want to. How many yards did Nebraska put up against Texas? I showed you the official NCAA ratings. But what do they know.

And good for Florida... it’s my understanding, however, that they won’t be playing Texas, so it doesn’t really matter.

See my #103 on total offense too.

I think the game could go either way... but predictions of a ‘Bama blowout are very premature. I’m thinking I’m just going to wait for the game. Personally, I think it’ll be a good one, and all the whiners whining about a mismatch will go dark.

I’m also going to laugh if Boise State pounds TCU. In fact, even though TCU is a Texas team I think I’m going to root for BS, just because I’m sick of TCU fans and their idiotic whining.

Utah, oh let’s see. Who did they beat? Air Force in OT! Wow! And, BTW, they lost to that great BYU team.

>> BYU lost to FSU 43 to 28. FSU lost to Florida 37 to 10.

That “transitive defeat” thing is interesting — and yes, I know the BCS computers use it too — but you can only take it so far, because so much depends on what team shows up on game day.

For only one of many examples: how could Texas pound Colorado by a lopsided score... and then Colorado play Nebraska tough and score a ton of points... and then Texas barely squeak out a one point win over Nebraska, with a total score of 25 points. The transitive stuff doesn’t explain games like that so well.

True, dat.

But tell me... if the “vs. Auburn” Alabama team and the “vs. Oklahoma State” Texas team show up, then what?

BYU (the team that smacked Oklahoma silly to start the season)?

Beating a 7-5 team by one point is not really a smackdown.

Colt McCoy and Mack Brown had better ask Santa for watches for Christmas. Colt somehow thought he had 15 seconds left when he took the snap but the game clock was 7 seconds. Another second on scrambling around and Texas would have lost on time. They were lucky yesterday. It showed on Colts face that they knew they survived trajedy by a 1 second reprieve. Nebraska couldn’t have done them any more favors than the crappy kick and the horse collar tackle. Colt McCoy will be passed over for the Heiseman. Texas should have been passed over for the Championship as well. It will be interesting to see how the coaches votes turned out. I’ll bet Texas was not an overwhelming favorite to go the championship. Somehow I think TCU just got edged out.

And Cinci and Boise State.

I can't wait to see TCU and Boise State play! That is my most anticipated game.

275 yds total offense won't get it done against Alabama.

I’ll have to take your word for it on those stats, but I don’t doubt it.

You’re not talking football any more; records like this have no bearing on next January’s contest, any more than past performance is a dumb way to pick stocks.

However, since you brought it up, here is another past performance statistic:

ONE of those BCS Championship Game winners from the Big 12 WAS TEXAS.

ZERO of the BCS Championship Game winners from the SEC was Alabama.

Isn’t that just as relevant as the other meaningless stats you’re now spouting?
