There's been a SWAT raid in Toronto over a gun scare, and designer Jeremy Bell was temporarily held at gunpoint. Per the Toronto Sun:
The partner at digital marketing company Teehan+Lax was surrounded by heavily armed tactical officers, cuffed and held against the wall of his Richmond St. W. office -- until, that is, the cops found the gun he had been holding in front of the window about 90 minutes earlier was a pile of blocks.
The BrickGun Semi-Automatic gun (purchased online from BrickGun, "designers and builders of the world's most realistic custom Lego weapon models") arrived at Bell's office Wednesday.
Here is Bell's account of what happened. You get some idea of the level of response the report of a man with a gun prompted, complete with air support:

A co-worker said she saw at least 6 SWAT, 2 uniformed officers, 2 undercover and a chopper in the air. Ive since been told that the surrounding streets were blocked off with five cop cars in total, two ambulances, and a dozen cops all taking positions of cover around the office. The guy is lucky he wasn't taken out by these yahoos. That is just ridiculous. How does something like this even happen?

I would be willing to “bet the farm” on the fact that the person who called police was a female.
They know instinctively that guns are dangerous and will kill you all by themselves. Don’t believe it? Just set a gun on a table and ask an average female to pick it up.
Proof will be in the pudding. (Of course there are exceptions...like Sarah Palin)

No, the previous accounts mentioned the neighbor by name. Biologically, it was a male, who was quoted as saying something like "I don't like guns around me...".
Oh, and I believe the wuss "Tweeted" a lame apology.

That’s a little harsh, don’t you think? I am a woman, and I would be a little shaky in the scenario you paint. But not because I think the gun will kill you buy itself but because I might accidently kill someone. Guns are dangerous — in the hands of the inexperienced. Therefore, it would be irresponsible of me to pick up your hypothetical gun unless I have been properly trained.
Most women, especially in my generation, have had no experience with hunting and, thus, no reason to learn about guns. Wouldn’t you rather have us hesitant about picking up that gun until we have had some safety lessons?
BTW, I plan to learn, and I am confident that I will be a pretty good shot and not be such a fraidy cat.

Is it a capital offense to say the word “gun” in Canada yet?

Back when I was a kid a street cop would have entered the building and investigated then left His report would have been - “nothing more than childrens lego blocks”.
When I was 12 I use to return pop bottles and get the 2¢ deposit. Then go to Montgomery Wards and buy a box of .22 shells. Hold my .22 rifle on my handle bars all the way out to the stone quarry and have a little target practice.

Take a basic gun safety class. Replace fear with healthy respect.
You don't need to own a gun to do this.
It's always good to know how to handle a gun safely, how to shoot (or not) and how to unload it.
You may choose for yourself not have a gun, that's fine, but not knowing how to use a gun will not protect you.
Imagine if you have to pick up a gun to prevent someone else from grabbing it.
Wouldn't you prefer to know how, instead of being paralyzed by fear?

I hate to say it, but that generalization would be true with most of the women I’ve known, in my family, friends, virtually all I’ve dated. That it’s not true for you makes you a rare exception...marry me?

I remember saying something like this after 9/11 when I said people at all levels of government had been conditioning us to be scared little sheep. But, people said I was a kook an we needed to just trust the government to take care of us.

Just set a gun on a table and ask an average female to pick it up.
If by average female you mean one untrained in firearms then it is the height of intellegence for her to not want to pick it up.
Only a complete idiot will pick up a firearm if they feel they lack the training and knowlege to do so safely. Unfortunatly the 'average guy' does it all the time. And more than a few of them have an ND because they have too much pride to ask for knowlege, help, or training.
