The halls aren't the only thing getting decked this holiday season.
The Salvation Army, the country's biggest charity, is taking it full on the chin from a social media network mobilized against the organization's position on homosexuality and other social sins. Twitter, Facebook and gay Web sites are lit up with protest and calls for donor boycotts.
The Army's official same-sex statement suggests it's unlikely those cheery volunteers ringing bells over red kettles will be donning gay apparel anytime soon.
While homosexuals are not "blameworthy," ... "Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex." The Army is an unabashedly evangelical, religious entity, after all, and has also resisted domestic partner benefits for its employees.
Last month, there was another stink about the Army's Houston division demanding to see Social Security cards of needy parents before providing toys for their kids. Angry protesters claimed this was discrimination against cardless illegal immigrants.
Before we take the predictable San Francisco, to-the-barricades view on all this, let's consider the Catholic concept of "proportionalism." This means (roughly, my interpretation) that bad conduct can be acceptable if a much greater good is being accomplished.
The Salvation Army served 33 million people in the United States last year. It raises about $2 billion a year and spends an impressive 89 percent of that on services - food, shelter, foster care and HIV programs.
It is a consistent and reliable disaster relief group.
"The first hand that reaches to pull you from the rubble of our next earthquake," Shea O'Neill wrote on the SFAppeal Web site last week, "will be the anti-gay hand of the Salvation Army."
There's no whitewashing their beliefs, if you oppose them, though the Army mission also is clear that its relief services are available to anyone "without regard to sexual orientation."

The Salvation Army doesn’t ask any questions in a disaster. They just help people.
I’ve seen them help poor families who lost their home in a fire and a wealthy neighborhood hit by a flood. They won’t ask any questions about the lifestyles of those they will help in a future SF earthquake.
The gay lobby needs to understand that tolerance means you “tolerate” behavior you don’t like. Tolerance does not mean approval.
So stand up for your skewed morals punk and refuse the assistance. Yeah, didn't think so.
United Way is a very large group of crooks. I never give them any money and I don’t like the Red Cross either.
I gave birth to our daughter in a SA hospital. I had complications resulting in a long and expensive hospital stay for both of us.
Because our insurance refused to cover much of it due to semantics we were held to be responsible for a huge amount.
In the end after battling the insurance company and the hospital and their attorney through the insurance commissioner’s office, thankfully the insurance company paid. The SA attorney was a shark. I will never give them any money.

This is clear in their statement-—no acceptance of homosexuality. Not just any unmarried sex, as you said.

I agree. SA is the only charity I give to. Glad to see they still stick to their beliefs.
The Salvation Army of Houston refuted the story. It was checking various kinds of information. However, the idea was to prevent people from gaming them and getting multiple toys. No child was turned away due to their immigration status.
The United Way supports planned parenthood and stopped supporting the Boy Scouts of America. That should tell you all you need to know about the United Way.

And your forget they do good work in helping people with HIV, so they may not condone what some groups do, but they sure are gracious enough to help clean up after them in manner of speaking.
My charity of choice is the Salvation Army, for many, many years.
And I also don’t mind some of my pocket change going to folks with HIV. Most aren’t in your face libs. Many are people that really are having a hard time around the holiday season in regards to food assistance and a small gift for their children.

Yes we show love to the homosexuals, but it`s not love to tell them their life is OK to The Lord, because it clearly is not.

Just as I don’t like crazy lib charities like Peta, some people don’t like the SA. If you don’t like the SA, don’t give them money, problem solved. I know I may give the SA some money this year.
Yes. Their is a difference between “fear” and “disapproval.” In any case, how sad that Salvation Army opponents are ready to penalize thousands of people in need just because the organization has a different point of view. You’re not supporting that, are you SuaveOne?

People who are repelled by homosexuality are responding in the only healthy way to this disorder.

They are not scared of homosexuals. Indeed, they provide services to any person, regardless of sexual orientation.
I think you are afraid of their religious conviction -— a Christianophobic who has no tolerance for religious convictions that do not comport with your own.
