BIG NEW SUNSPOT
SpaceWeather ^ | December 16, 2009 | SpaceWeather

Posted on 12/16/2009 9:39:38 AM PST by SpaceBar

New sunspot 1035 is growing rapidly and it is now seven times wider than Earth. This makes it an easy target for backyard solar telescopes. ... The magnetic polarity of the spot identifies it as a member of Solar Cycle 24--the cycle we've been waiting for to end the deepest solar minimum in nearly a century. One spot isn't enough to end the lull, but sunspot 1035 could herald bigger things to come.

On the other thread, we see that we're a bit overdue:

If the December averages don't end with an upswing, the NOAA model can probably be considered broken.

It’s a message from the sun. Read one way it says soli and read the other way it’s 17 “heart” 5.

Geez, I really hope no one from Huffpo, Kos, or DU is lurking on this thread. I can just imagine dozens of those rubes frying their retinas to get a good look at those sunspots.

Darwin awards, anyone?

Thanks for the chart. I’m not sure when that prediction was made. I do recall back in spring of 2008 the “experts” were calling for a rise as well! No diss on the experts really, just to emphasize that this place we call home has a LOT of unknowns about it.

No thanks. We moved here a couple of years ago from Michigan. I never left the house. There is southern blood in these veins, and I’m considering another move farther south.

I know what you mean. I lived in FL for two years.I didn’t care for it a whole lot at the time. Now I miss it more every year! There is just something appealing about getting a mild sunburn while bass fishing on Christmas day!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Where did the temperature graph come from? It looks like one that has been cooked, because 1934 should be the warmest year.

yeah sure- ‘calm down’ and watch these criminals continue to walk all over us- whatever- It’ll mostl ikely go down just as I said- the primary reason for warming- cyclical wamrign which these criminals falsely tried blaming on man and CO2, was sunspots- The atmosphere began cooling when hte sunspots were dissapearing, and climate scientists were ‘warning’ that we were now headed for 30+ years of cooling- contrary to the alarmist’s claims of ‘catastrophic warming’- and the fact that we were actually cooling was the only real chance we had of exposing the fraud of ‘global warming’, and was our only chance really to prove that the climatologist’s ‘comp[uter model PREDICTIONS were basedd on nonsense, and that nature was goign to do what it always does- Warm/Cool/Warm etc- IF the sun is again producing massive sunposts- and hte warmign begins again- these criminals will exploit the warming claiming falsely once again that we’re to blame by producing CO2 and guillible peopel all over the world will beleive them- We’re havign a hard enough time convincing peopel of the fraud DESPITE the FACT that their computer model code was proven to be deceitful- Any warming for whatever reason is NOT good news i nthe fight for truth-

Perhaps the truth being trampled into hte ground by liars, crooks and criminals doens’t bother you but it sure does me- so enough with hte ‘calm down’ crap!

[[The global warmers at Copenhagen are running out in the freezing cold to stare pray to the spot. They see it as an omen of good fortune, trillions of dollars of plundered fortune.]]

You bet they see it as a windfall- it doesn’t matter what causes warming- all that matters is that warming happens, and they are hell bent on blaming man for it

Thanks for the chart. I’m not sure when that prediction was made.

The chart was revised May 2009.

Here's the earlier model prediction from April 2007:

Thanks a bunch for the chart! Some day I’ll have to really sit down and go through the thread on HTML or whatever to get that kind of stuff in these threads.

Interesting to note, that if the sunspots are related to temperatures, and over the long haul I think they are - just looking at the chart their is a delay between temperature and the sunspots. I imagine the sunspots are an indicator of other things going on with the sun - solar flux or something? (Another thread had lots of discussion on that.)

I knew an old guy that had done a bunch of study on how the price of gold was inverse to the sunspot activity. For other reasons (but his goofy study in the back of my mind) I bought a bunch in the late 1990’s. Not sure I will be selling it anytime soon. However, if Congress rolls over in 2010 I might take a look at it!

The mechanism is that sunspots are an indicator of the strength of the solar magnetic field. A strong solar magnetic field results in less cosmic rays hitting earth. Ionized cosmic ray particles promote condensation and cloud formation.

The current cooling trend might be over. Thank God. The 1 hr commutes here in MI over the last three winters have been more and more brutal.
