President Obama yesterday pulled his head out of the sand long enough to promise a thorough review of US se curity practices after the near-suicide bombing of a commercial airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day.
Then he stuck it right back in.
Obama, in a brief address from Hawaii, did manage to utter the "T" word: "A full investigation has been launched into this attempted act of terrorism." But he refused to define the nature of the threat.
Nor did he fire Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano -- a pity, because if any government official ever earned the boot, it's her.

If police were looking for serial killers, they wouldn’t investigate every resident of the city. They would pull together similarities in each killing to paint a profile of the killer.
Why can ‘t out national security gurus see the same thing and bring themselves to recognize that the most likely terrorist is a middle-eastern muslim man between 14 and 48?
Concentrate your manpower on screening this group, let through those that are clean and seize those who have the faintest whiff of jihadist connections.
One had better believe that next time an airliner is threatened in anyway that freak in the White House will ensure that it gets covered up.
And as far as cover-ups are concerned, the guy who sat on the can for over an hour has been dubbed as “ill” and I am sure is back on his merry way to join forces again with the Gitmo “rehabilitated” criminals in Yemen to attempt round two. Or three.

Homeland Security screwed up and Janet should be fired but Homeland Security didn’t give out the visa, the State Department did, so the OTHER bull dyke should be fired too. Let’s be fair.

If the president really wanted to change the tone in Washington, he might consider pardoning Scooter Libby and giving HIM the job. That many who read this will react by saying “Riiiiiiiight” suggests just how firmly business as usual is embedded in this administration. This president wouldn’t dream of upsetting the partisans who regularly ridiculed GWB, nor is there a snowball’s chance in hell he would consider appointing someone with Libby’s competence or integrity. The mere fact that Libby’s never cheated on his taxes would disqualify him for an Obama cabinet position.

Napolitano has risen well above her level of incompetence.

There was nothing attempted about it. It was an act of terrorism. The fact that it didn't succeed does not negate that fact.
