Why we must unite behind Nikki Haley. All of us.

Interestingly, as I write this, word comes from the paper that one of the GOP candidates for Governor of South Carolina, has been AWOL from his day job. Gresham Barrett, a South Carolina Congressman, has been absent from more votes in the United States House of Representatives than any other Congressman, Democrat or Republican.

Barrett is, like the other guys in the race, a good guy, but I have to ask what these guys have sacrificed for their principles. We are used to guys compromising in the name of comity and saving face and power. Rarely do we see a politician willing to be punished for sticking up for principles.

That brings up to Nikki Haley. Back in 2008, Nikki Haley was up to be chairman of the South Carolina House’s powerful Labor, Commerce and Industry (LCI) Committee.

Unfortunately for Haley, she had pushed legislation for greater transparency and spending restraint in the state legislature. The Republicans in the state legislature who talk a good game on fiscal conservatism, but don’t practice it, were angry. They told Haley if she did not back down, they would punish her.

She refused. The House Speaker yanked her chairmanship.

She doesn’t have enough experience, yet, as a backbencher in the SC House. Another problem for her, she was a committed supporter of Slick Willard for President. I’m supporting Henry McMaster for Governor.

McMaster campaigned for McLame with Sen. Graham early on...so I had to look past the past endorsements of the candidates.

I’m undecided on Michigan, but it’s probably a given whomever we nominate will likely win. We should’ve won it back in ‘06, only Miss Grandstand caught the luckiest break in her life with that rodent sweep.

Granholm’s Lt governor is running on Granholm’s record so I think we can count him out on the democrat side. LOL

They were all execrable Prez candidates, but Slick was the worst of the bunch, so it seriously calls into question her judgment (yes, DeMint endorsed Slick, too, but I already stated that didn’t make him look good, either, because he was playing with fire, believing he’d be picked for VP were he to be nominated). This lady needs a bit more seasoning, though, either a run for Congress or another statewide office before going for Governor, that’s really too big a jump to make.

I hear a lot of the MI Dems are desperately seeking to lure Speaker Andy Dillon into the race, since they think Cherry is toast in the general. Cherry has a daunting challenge regardless. No sitting Lieutenant Governor has successfully been elected Governor (excluding an ascension to the post via resignation, a la Milliken) in 50 years, the last being Democrat John Swainson in 1960. Dick Posthumus couldn’t pull it off, either.

I don’t see McMaster strongly standing up to Obambi’s attempts to ignore federalism...I see him congratulating Obambi on MLK day and Black History Month as McLame did...hopefully I’m wrong.

Hoekstra is a formmidable opponent for anybody right now with the exposure he’s getting. Most of the people running are pretty much unknown outside their own districts. If you ask me who the Lt Gov is tomorrow I’ll have to look it up.

Her support of Romney is irrelevant.
Duncan Hunter endorsed Huckabee, who granted clemency to a future cop-killer. Does that make Hunter a bad person?
These endorsements are more of a support for the party agenda as a whole rather than the candidate itself. It shouldn't have no bearing on someone's political aspirations.

Disagree, 100%. It goes to the sense of judgment and agenda of the person making the endorsement. Either Haley is naive or she was approving of Slick’s agenda, and whichever it is, it doesn’t speak well to her.

Oh, Romney... c’mon, that’s not worse than Clinton... the pickins were slim for GOP in 2008.
