Harvard: Swine Flu Pandemic Oversold; Fear Mongering Government To Blame?

Some of you may find this to be a big surprise, but a Harvard study shows that the great swine flu pandemic was oversold. Shocking I know, as one doctor points out, “The H1N1 pandemic was a pandemic that never materialized.” Then I guess you could call the swine flu pandemic oversold, wouldn’t you think?

The Harvard study uses the deaths from H1N1 back in the spring and projecting what they would have been in the fall suggests that the swine flu pandemic was indeed oversold by a government willing to allow its citizens to be in a constant state of fear. Some had suggested all along that the government was using the news of a possible swine flu pandemic as a means of fear mongering. Hard to believe, huh? A fear mongering government, who would have thought?

This is in no way intended to make light of those who did die from the disease, but let’s think back to all of the reports telling us that small children, older people, and pregnant women were dying by the thousands and the pandemic had reached biblical proportions. Perhaps swine flu was oversold. But why?

The CDC had previously estimated that nearly 100,000 people would die from the swine flu. We haven’t yet reached 10,000 and most flu activity has leveled off. The CDC now reports that just 11 states have widespread flu activity. The government was at one time in full throated vaccination mode. Joe Biden himself said he wouldn’t ride the subway. Once again, why?

At one time, it was feared the swine flu pandemic would cause there to be worldwide shortage of the much needed swine flu vaccine. Now, just a few months later, with swine flu oversold to the degree it has been, a surplus of vaccinations looks to be the order. Nice call governments of the world.

Is there likely to be more flu cases before springtime? Most definitely, but I’m no doctor. The fact is the swine flu pandemic was oversold to a public that sometimes seems to feed on doom and gloom. A perfect situation for a fear mongering government. Is it possible the pandemic was touted to take the public’s mind off of more serious subjects like the war, economy, terrorism, the government takeover of well, everything? I’m not generally into conspiracy theories but the swine flu oversell makes you wonder.

“Harvard: Swine Flu Pandemic Oversold; Fear Mongering Government To Blame?”

Well, yes and, the state controlled media. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX and of course NPR. Each, more useless then the next.

Joe Biden warned us that some nefarious thing would test Barry in his first year.

I, for one, am glad that my president told me to wash my hands to prevent spreading disease. I hope he will sprinkle more of his wisdom on us as his term progresses. /s

A perfect example of “captain obvious”. I took heat from fellow FReepers, but every indication pointed to that this was yet one more, GOBUL WARMING!!!, type scare. Yeah, and movie popcorn will kill you too.

By the way, could the government have screwed up the H1N1 vaccine any more than they did? When the vaccine eventually, finally got somewhat available the so-called pandemic had already peaked and passed. Sheesh. Oh, yeah, and remember that bird flu thing that was supposed to be the third horseman of the apocalypse...?

Just another attempt to frighten us so we will look to them for salvation. They will return us all to serfdom if we don't stop them.

Those of us born with the freedom gene are the greatest threat they face, we must be prepared for trouble!

BUAIDH NO BAS !

Only oversold if you haven’t contracted it. Hurts like living hell. Didn’t seek immunization & still would not have given it to do again, enlightened.

I said it was over blown at the time. As people ( even some here at FR) were runny around saying the sky was falling, I suggested that this would not turn out to be that big a deal. Do I have special powers? Only to the extent that I know Australia has its flu season about 6 months before ours hits ——IF it was a truly dangerous pandemic there would have been tens of thousands of deaths last spring

And I can’t count the number of times FReepers yelled at me when I said that exact thing.

Read this book to see what might happen in an influenza pandemic. I don't believe it is just scaremongering. There is not much that we can do besides vaccinations, which have a long lead time to produce. If we faced another influenza pandemic like the 1918 virus, which is entirely possible, tens of millions might die.

They’ll still take advantage of this news, and spin it to their favor. “See, we took great measures to inform the public how to prevent the spread of H1N1..and it worked! Good job everyone, but most of all, good job to us for telling you how to wash your hands!”

There is no particular reason Australia would get hit before us. The 1918 pandemic began in Kansas, and was limited by the speed of rail. A modern pandemic would travel far more quickly.

OH PLEEZE.

Yes, if we have another world war where young men are stuffed into ships and kept in tight quarters for months after sitting in wet trenches, we sure will have another “1918 Flu”

The fearmongering here on FR was amazing. People damn near wishing people would start dying to feed their “I told you so” attitude.

I’ve been here a while now, I’ve “prepared for the worst” a few times. I’m now trusting in The Lord and having a good time doing it.

IIRC she’s been in a panic since before spring.

Must be exhausting.

1918 was almost 100 years ago. Much has changed in sanitation, nutrition, and medicine in the time since that flue hit.
