Palin Sources Claim that She was Troubled by John Birch Society's Sponsorship of CPAC

Palin announced late Thursday that she would attend SRLC, joining Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as announced speakers. Interestingly, Palin also announced on Thursday that she would not be speaking at CPAC, a gathering of conservatives in Washington in mid February -- a decision, according to those familiar with her thinking, due at least in part to the fact that the John Birch Society is one of the sponsors

I never caught any anti-semitism in JBS, where did you get that??

Why don't you ask me? I'm the one who was a member.

You don't understand their m.o. They aren't openly anti-Semitic. That's not their job (though they are hostile to Israel and to pro-Israel Fundamentalists). Their m.o. is to entice decent people into the anti-Semitic movement by introducing them to conspiracy theory--anti-Semitism with the word "Jews" removed.

Have you ever heard of a book called The Rapture Cult? It's available in its entirety online. It was written by a John Bircher and promoted "unofficially" by the Society (including by a couple of coordinators I knew). I recommend you read it--especially the part where it claims that C.I. Scofield was obviously a member of "the Conspiracy" because he fought for the Confederacy but got a Federal job in Kansas after the War.

It’s definetly helpful to hear the perspective of someone who was a member. I just read their literature, I remember the number 2 (Gary Allen?)guy often denying that they were anti semitic claiming that he was himself Jewish. I know that many nationalist US groups from the 30’s through the 50’s were anti semetic, a mantle that seems proudly taken up by the Democratic Party now.

Gary Allen wasn't Jewish. I believe you are thinking of Alan Stang, a prominent spokesman who was. Today Stang is a "Baptist" minister (and not the regular, pro-Israel kind) and an anti-Israel lunatic. Just go to his web page and see.

I didn't even know the Birchers were still around. I remember going to an American Opinion bookstore for a class project in the early 70’s. But I haven't seen an AO bookstore in over 30 years.

Funny, I don’t remember her going ape s—t over Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, who was a leader of a KKK unit in his home state, who also opposed striking down the Jim Crow laws, and who also trashed the Republican he won his House seat from, for voting to strike them down?

I don’t know that aspect of the JBS’ past. It may or may not be true, but if we can forgive Byrd and look at his current work free from relevance from the past, we can look at the JBS free from relevance from the past.

It really is interesting though, that those who didn’t want the Jim Crow laws from the past struck down, now trash those who did, and are avowed supporters of communists and worse.

JBS is still in a little office in Appleton, WI. A historical footnote more than anything.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008 with an event at the Neenah Best Western featuring Ron Paul.

I think that article mischaracterizes D’Souza. He has made some legitimate points about the nature and extent of radicalism in the Islamic world, and about the problem posed by the activities of the cultural left in this country.

About every anti-American?/anti Israel Communist/Jihadist organization on the planet? ACU, then , has been taken over! This is shocking. I will sound naive to ask, how did this happen?? How was it possible? Have most people been asleep, too busy or not paying attention to ACU's moves thru the years? No wonder Palin will not have anything to do with them.

Take "conservative" from their title and replace it with communist, the acronym remains the same.

I can't understand or even believe this. If true, Sarah should not have singled out the JBS--why didn't she name just a few of the others? Code Stink, for starters.

When I were younger, much younger, I was influenced into believing that the John Birch Society was un-American in it s scope and purpose. I was at that age than many young Americans are at now…too busy to care.

I can’t say the John Birch Society ever entered my mind but I do remember driving in the South one time and seeing a billboard promoting the John Birch Society. I still knew nothing about them so my thoughts went back to my first impression.

A few years ago, I came across a video that impressed me as an accurate view of America and its Constitution. I now have grown children and eight grandchildren. I feel one day the grandchildren would wonder why their grandfather was so dumb as to leave the country in the mess they had to deal with. I am at the age now were I do care and sorry I didn’t begin to care much earlier in life.

The video was presented as a Ten Minute History Lesson and titled “The American Form of Government”. In those ten minutes, I saw a very concise and accurate description of the Constitution’s vision for America.

Later, in response to a post on Free Republic I offered that link. Another person responded to tell me that I had only posted a portion of the video, the only portion I had by the way. He provided a link to three more videos equally as informative. It was then I discovered the John Birch Society presented the videos.

This prompted me to visit and review John Birch Society. I could not find anything sinister or un-American. The John Birch Society is dedicated to restoring and preserving freedom under the United States Constitution, and so am I.

All I can say to anyone, who has the time to care, visit the John Birch Society site and take your own decision.

I am going there now because as I was preparing this post I saw they had an article, Intellectuals and Society, written by Thomas Sowell, whose thoughts always contain the wisdom missing from my President and Representatives.

So Imam Keene is against those of us who wish every jihadist in this country could be at the least kicked out--at the least; dislike boarding planes wondering if we'll be blown to bits; seeing mosques bristling with hatred and calls to murder more Christians & Jews?

So, Keene would promote sharia law in the US, force us to convert to Islam, women into burquas, inflict a kind of female castration on girls? Arrested for thoughtcrime or looking askance at a murdering SOB such as Kasam @ Ft Hood?

Well, Imam Keene, bring it on you poor psychotic dhimmi, the Tea Party Patriots have spoken: '"WE CAME UNARMED...THIS TIME." !!!!

i am reeling & will quit before I'm totally incoherent.

Hmmm, 40% of people now say they are conservatives. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could purport to be the spokemen of conservatism so we can get these people to vote us in so we can implement our socialist agenda. The useful idiots won’t even know it happened until it was a done deal.

The press won’t expose us, they’ll help conceal who we are. They’ll give us air time and refuse it to real conservatives.

I first noticed this when a teacher ordered texbooks from me for a government class some years ago. He ordered two left wing books and said he was going to expose his students to both sides of issues. I asked him which one was the conservative viewpoint. He said it was the book by Chris Matthews.

If we let them choose our spokesmen we will be defeated before we start.

If what was posted earlier is true, then it’s almost too late. And if your figure of 40% people ID themselves as conservatives..say 20-25%liberal (I’m guessing)—there is a huge ignorant population inbetween these figures which is unwilling or incapable of identifying; many of these Hussein voters/admirers...MSM about totally on the commie-Islamofascist side——Those of us who are willing to fight will also have to be willing to do some “unpleasant” things to subvert them, to go to the extremes that helped defeat Nazi Germany (Resistance)and it will be no walk in the park nor will it stop the enemy overnight.

I sure hope so. They're our version of ACORN or Rev. Wright.

Uh oh, now they'll label be one of the Illuminati...oh, I'm so scared.

Since Mark Levin is attending, where does that leave him? Has he decided not to attend because the JBS is a sponsor?
