WASHINGTON DC, United States - A top US military commander responsible for the Middle East and the Gulf region said the United States has developed contingency plans to deal with Iran's nuclear facilities, insisting that they "can be bombed."
"Well, they certainly can be bombed," General David Petraeus, head of US Central Command, told CNN television as he commented on suggestions that Iranian nuclear facilities were heavily fortified.
"The level of effect would vary with who it is that carries it out, what ordnance they have, and what capability they can bring to bear," he added.
The network plans to air the interview later Sunday, but has released some excerpts.

I was responding to the assertion that an attack would destabilize the regime. I fear that it would have the opposite effect.
I agree, we need to realistically evaluate the threat and act in our own interests.
Don’t be so sure. This is Obama’s wag the dog.
Did anyone ever say they could not be bombed?
I like the idea of using the space shuttle to lift a bunch of 59’ tungsten telephone pole sized rods into orbit. Fit the guidance packages once they’re off loaded. If they need to be moved farther out into space to gain more velocity before entering the atmosphere, it shouldn’t take that much fuel.
At an appropriate time launch them at the Iranian nuclear facilities. I think the rod from Allah would be an appropriate name. That and greasing dead terrorists with pig fat before burying them should put the quietus on the Iranians and their clients.
Those are strategies I’d support.
He'll have to decide if we are to protect oil supply or Israel.
The moment we impeach and remove the Imperial Imposter.
He will lead at some point. He’s Cheney without the baggage.

“New Satellite Images Show Tunnel Construction at Esfahan Facility in Iran

I wonder how far they could dig in 5 years ?...
Huummm
A AGM130 with a SMAK 84 shell loaded as a thermobaric warhead. (SMAK 84 is a ES1b steek casing for the bomb)
Drop 2, 30 seconds apart with the same target coordinates.
I guess if you collape the tunnel, you get everything else?
In this case, it includes a bunch of solidly anti-regime people in the Iranian Diaspora who have relatives back home and understandably fear for their safety.
You would be amazed at the number of Emails and messages coming out of Iran saying we prefer to be bombed than living under this regime.
Many feel helpless and do not believe that committing suicide and facing torture in the street demonstrations is as effective as a bombing attack on nuke sites which would weaken the regime to where perhaps they could effectively react and complete an overthrow.
Please think twice before spreading this canard of “uniting the Iranian people against us”. It has been an excuse for doing nothing for two decades. And a gross misreading of the situation to be able to procrastinate.
BTW - could the Petraeus comment also indicate the military is getting fed up with the Obama mindsets and showing it?
And BTW, the Islamic regime has arrested and is putting on trial five MEK (Mojaheddin), whom they fear like the devil incarnate. And shows their worry of the MEK, who other than their Marxist-Islamist ideals are simply populace like Iranian Joe and Jill six-pack without a cattle brand on their foreheads with MEK identifying them.
This move starts an effort to demonize them again and stop the MEK from becoming active in the protests.
Yes! The Mullahs, every dhimmi and their uncles and the liberal left.
They repeatedly state that it would not destroy the nuke facilities so a waste of time and effort. Teh fact it would bury access to them for many months if not years and damage the equipment is ignored.
Like ignoring that if it will take 10-years to drill in the USA and bring oil online, the we had better start now. And had we done so years ago would be closer to self-sufficiency.
But the Obama would not have a reason to buy oil from his buddy in charge of Brazilian off-shore drilling operations.
Penetration:
200 ft (61 m) of 5,000 psi (34 MPa) reinforced concrete
26 ft (7.9 m) of 10,000 psi (69 MPa) reinforced concrete
130 ft (40 m) of moderately hard rock
I can’t find any info on how deep the AGM-130C will
penetrate but I don’t think it has the reach of the M.O.P.
If we use Cheyenne Mountain as a benchmark,,,
Some of these sites are under those mountains,,,
Maybe a 1,000 ft. of hard rock over them,,,?
Blast doors etc...?
(errand)...bbl...
I think Israel would take care of business
Governor Palin/General Petraeus 2012. (Duncan Hunter for Secretary of Defense, John Bolton for Secretary of State, Fred Thompson as Attorney General)
See my tagline.
Yes, I could see that as a reason for the general speaking up, OR perhaps this is his way of announcing interest in a presidential run.
Afterall, I certainly don't remember BHO showing any inclination to bomb the nuke facilities.... so why in heaven's name should we believe that General Petraeus is speaking out on BHO's behalf?
I totally agree.
Our 0Mullah is an 0Mama! He's afraid of his own shadow!
Once saw a comment by an Iranian on being attacked by the US over the nuclear issue - Kill as many of us as you need, just get rid of the mullas...
