We, as a society, are being manipulated toward accepting some form of socialism by use of contrived situations to change our perception of "is".
Many people now believe that socialism is the only viable way to prevent armegeddon, although this goes against their personal desire for freedom and individuality. This is the desired result.

I guess I’d heard it earlier as manipulating people through a kind of problem-crisis-solution model. Government desires to control gun ownership, even though laws allow the public to possess them.
Government points to “problem” of “gun crime” without acknowledging the social benefits of citizen firearm ownership. Public is whipped into a “crisis” over “gun crime” through propaganda or compliant media.
People demand that government do something to “solve” the problem and end the “crisis.” Government passes gun control laws restricting who can own guns and what kinds they can own. Even though owning firearms is a citizen’s right.
The government ultimately gets what it wants—dispossessing citizens of their firearms—under the guise of bowing to public pressure over “gun crime.”.
