A former Bethlehem middle school teacher whose nature program for seventh-graders won national acclaim apparently killed himself Thursday about an hour before he was scheduled to plead guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage boy, a charge that shocked the community and cost him his career.
Gregory G. Ritter, 45, a longtime Boy Scout volunteer and 20-year National Guardsman, was found dead next to a picnic table at the apartment complex in the Poconos where he recently moved, according to police, who said he had a gunshot wound to the head.

There is no refutation needed for bucket-headed stupidity: it is what it is, and it is self-refuting.

There is a way to clear your name. You have to speak out about your innocence. The truth is your best friend. This pervert’s guilt is what drove him to kill himself.

In theory you’re right. In practise it’s nearly impossible to do in the case of somebody being accused of child molestery. Before the trial, people like yourself will have leapt to conclusions about guilt. Some will not have those views shaken, even if a “Not Guilty” verdict is entered.
It isn’t like most other crimes such as, say, burglary. It’s filthy dirty and it leaves a stain to even be accused of it.
News outlets are far less enthusiastic and energetic about helping to clear a man’s good name than they are to destroy it in the first place.
People are likely to feel that “where there is smoke there is fire” and discount the “Not Guilty” verdict.
And, if the fellow is unfortunate enough to be imprisoned wrongfully, “everybody behind bars claims they’re innocent.”
Peter Ellis was convicted of performing the most ridiculously impossibly evil acts on kids in the Christchurch Creche, based on “supressed memories” brought out of the children under interrogation by “psychologists”. Any fair reading of the “evidence” would have had the case thrown out.
Yet he was convicted and sent to gaol, and our government refuses to pardon him because he refuses to accept his guilt. Because he is innocent.
He will never receive justice because he has been stained, and that stain is permanent.

Nonsense. You can clear your name. All these perverts consider themselves to be innocent. If we follow your logic, we will never be able to punish these criminals for fear of an “accident”.
Our problem is not too many innocent people being accused. Most perverts walk away scot-free because we make it too hard to prosecute them. I work with youth. If someone were to make an accusation, I am covered because I protect myself at all times. I am never alone with a minor. Anyway, the perverts are usually self-documenting so an accusation is backed by data.
Pedophilia is a disease for which there is no cure. Almost all pedophile cannot control their urges. Their urges consume them.
This is why i believe they should be permanently separated from the rest of society.

I've been single all my life and athletics of all kinds have been my passion. My sister once asked me why I don't get involved with an organization such as "Big Brothers".
I told her as much as I would like to take a fatherless kid under my wing and get him involved in the things that I have enjoyed my entire life, all it takes is one baseless comment or accusation of some sort and my life would be ruined......Its just not worth that risk.

In 2005 there was an employee at my plant who WAS falsely accused of molesting his daughter's teenage girlfriend. He was arrested, thrown in jail, called a "monster" by the arraigning female judge, then ultimately acquitted after it was discovered the girl lied and was put up to the lie by Andy's ex-wife.........
Arrest, jail time, local newspaper headlines, public humiliation, condemnation by neighbors and suspicious looks from co-workers not knowing what to believe.........You do not fully recover from such horrors nor do you ever regain your reputation.
Andy committed suicide in the summer of 2007 for reasons unknown but I suspect the above incident added to the torment he must have been suffering from.

What an idiot. I receive no remuneration for my role as Chairman of the Charitable Trust. I have a day job as a salesman and nearly 30 years of “real world” experience that puts food on my table.
