WICHITA, Kan. — A man who said he killed prominent Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller in order to save the lives of unborn children was convicted Friday of murder.

The jury deliberated for just 37 minutes before finding Scott Roeder, 51, of Kansas City, Mo., guilty of premeditated, first-degree murder in the May 31 shooting death.

“Are you glad that Tiller is no longer killing kids?”

Yes I am but cold blooded muder is wrong no matter who does it or why.

That is a valid point, eleni. If this, indeed, can be considered under the definition of a Christian "holy war" based on long and deeply thought out parameters, I can understand the point.

We are indeed at war against the laws of the land, no question. The laws sanction the brutal murder of innocent children, and because of that, the pro-life movement has focused its attention (rightfully, I think) on overturning those laws.

Where the problem lies is that Tiller, no matter how heinous his acts, was only a single player in this holocaust. Did Roeder "hear" from God? Doubtful. Many murderers have claimed to hear God's voice, but when they shot a person dead, they were rightfully convicted of murder. We cannot presume that God instructed Roeder to break a moral law in order to prevent the breaking of moral laws by Tiller.

The reason that this brings out such emotional responses is that it is horrifying at all levels.

Do we sanction wholesale murder of every abortion doctor? Do we bomb clinics? I don't think that's the answer, and I do base that on God's word, both Old and New Testaments.

I believe that what Roeder did was murder. He murdered an evil man, but I do not believe it is justifiable in view of Scripture.

btw, CJ Roberts has hinted at overturning Roe v Wade. We need to be in deep prayer about this.

Well, I think I could construct a pretty good argument based on traditional natural law and the theology of Thomas Aquinas, not on situational ethics. But frankly I don’t think it would be a good idea to do so.

"some nuts here that see this guy as a hero"

what possible reason could they have for thinking that?

Perhaps they know that babies are people, regardless of whether the umbilical cord is cut, or the entire body is outside the vagina? Wow so crazy huh?

I usually avoid these threads—here I am 2nd thread in as many days. :-)

Taking a life is taking a life (or as I said on the other thread ‘murder is murder, period’) regardless of whether it is first trimester, late term or 67 years of age.

To borrow from Brit Hume, the Christain faith is one of forgiveness and redemption. Roeder pretty much took that option off of the table for Tiller with one shot through the head. I cannot wrap my brain around praising Roeder’s actions anymore than I can justify using abortion as a means of birth control.

I Wish there was a RAMBO Scott Roeder; One who never gets caught but keeps on killing doctors who kill babies. I do not have the guts to do so.

As a Christian myself, I'll just thank God that you're a coward. Apparently your own cowardice is the only thing keeping you from acting on the evil intentions that you harbor.

Then I will pray that you live a long life and die without warning. That and suggest that you seek help in the mean time. I certainly can’t reason with you.

40 million babies killed and you feel sorry for me.

And if Jesus was with the doctor when he killing a Baby he would not so nothing.

Those babies are the temples of God, he might stop it like when he threw the tables over in the temple, you think?

I didn't call for premeditated murder like you did or for abortion. hero. And I notice you want others to do it for you too.

Claiming my condemning outright premeditated murder is killing babies is delusional. You seem to want to proof the libs are right. 'Pro-life murdering nuts'.

You seem to have lost track of who you are arguing with.

Abortion is murder.

Roe-v-Wade should be like prohibition. If enough people just carried on with their lives as if abortion is murder just like they know it is, it could not continue.

“I do not think everyone involved in the process could be considered guilty anymore than they did in regards to the Nazi’s.”

Why, that is an odd position.

Suppose, Person A, Person B and Person C all conspire to murder a child.

Person A drives the car to the playground, Person B lures a six year-old child into a car and Person C shoots the child in the head.

Do you believe that each person is guilty of murder, or do you believe that only Person C in guilty of murder?

Now, Suppose, Person A, Person B and Person C all conspire to murder a child.

Person A decides that she wants to murder her unborn child, Person B takes a telephone call and schedules a time for the unborn child to be murdered, Person C is an abortion doctor and conducts the abortion procedure.

Do you believe that only each person is guilty of murder, or do you believe that only Person C in guilty of murder?

Finally, Suppose, Person A, Person B and Person C all conspire to murder a child.

Person A discovers she is pregnant and realizes that she is only two weeks into the pregnancy, Person B writes a prescription for RU-486, Person C works as a pharmacist and fills Person A's Prescription for the RU-486 otherwise known as the abortion pill.

Do you believe that only each person is guilty of murder or do you believe that only Person C in guilty of murder?

Now, would your hero, Scott Roeder be justified in killing each of the above nine people prior to their committing the actions detailed in these three scenarios?
