Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the nation will deliver a harsh blow to the "global arrogance" on this year's anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
"The Islamic Revolution opened a window to liberty for the human race, which was trapped in the dead ends of materialism," Ahmadinejad said during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
"If the Islamic Revolution had not occurred, liberalism and Marxism would have crushed all human dignity in their power-seeking and money-grubbing claws. Nothing would have remained of human and spiritual principles," he added.
Ahmadinejad said that in the three decades of its history, the Islamic Revolution had inspired some great developments in the world.
The Iranian president made the remarks as the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution approaches.
Iranians are expected to pour into the streets on February 11 to celebrate the occasion in public rallies across the country, as they have done annually over the past three decades.
If this is political which every move the Democrats do politically, I will bet that we are going to move on Iran. I bet Obama gets a big boost in poll numbers if he goes after Iran.
thx.
Ping to look at again on 12FEB2010.
This is just the standard “Mother of all Battles” kind of comedic lunacy that comes from idiot muzzie dictators with no clue about how badly and quickly they will be bombed into insignificance. Ahmadinejad and Khamenei better check on spider hole accommodations.
“On 16 January 1979, the shah left Iran on a trip officially described as a medical rest. On 1 February 1979, Khomeini, triumphantly returned from exile, refused to recognize the legitimacy of Bakhtiar’s government and appointed a provisional government headed by Freedom Movement leader Mehdi Bazargan. Demonstrations against Bakhtiar and in favor of Bazargan took place throughout the country. On 11 February 1979, military leaders ordered their forces back to their barracks and to remain-neutral in the civilian political struggle. This announcement led to the collapse of the Bakhtiar government and the victory of the revolutionary movement.”

I thought I remembered Feb 11th as important in Iran.
I would be suspicious of the threat only being leveled at the demonstrators and not the west. The regime is in peril and the protests on the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution have huge significance in Iranian society.
If the regime loses control on this day (and Mousavi and Karroubi are calling for their supporters to go out into the streets), they could collapse. What better way to try to reunite the masses than by either directly attacking Isreali interest or using their proxies Hezbollah to do that for them. Never underestimate the evil intent of the mullahs and amma-nutjob. This is especially true with our weak and vasillating POTUS.

Iran has pulled this type of stunt before with grandiose pronouncements which came to exactly squat.
Certainly, there are all sorts of military movements going on here, but how much of those movements are SOP and how much is posturing?
Sorry gang, but I don't see a cut and dry run up to any conflict here. If anything is to happen, we will be discussing it in the post tense, not the likes of this thread predicting conflict.
Ping to me on february 11th.
He did? Wow, apparently Barry doesn’t know everything after all...

I’ve been saying exactly this for months here on FR. That Obama’s huge liberal agenda the first year was the result of his foreknowledge that a conflict between Iran/Isreal/US is coming in 2010.
That is why he pushed ahead regardless of his plummeting poll numbers. He knew that once a major war, possibly nuclear, even something leading to WW3, commences, poll numbers mean absolutely nothing.
He likely found this out when he and McCain were briefed at the White House in Sept ‘08.
I am afraid that you are correct.
Post 371, thank you.
Yes, but where?
Thanks for the ping!

I think we can respond with plenty of chaos...
At least we might be able to keep his supplier of “Members Only” jackets from importing them to Tehran...
That might put his panties in a wad...
You could be right of course...but generally speaking the vast array of military being moved, and leadership movements between nations these past months does support the conflict is ratcheting up much much more than the norm.
Further Iran does have re-placement leadership we can put into place now, who have opposed the current leadership. This makes it all the more ripe for someone to do something to stop the esculation Nations have tried for years to hault in Iran....additionally the Iranian people are ready.
Irans current leadership knows they can be replaced as well. Which is there real concern. So I doubt they will sit still without some sort of return fire.
Because of how things are set there is alot of backdoor neg’s going on that we won’t see in the news of course. If this esculation, on all sides, stands down it will be because those neotiations were successful.
I believe Russia delivering the delivery system was the straw that is moving this confrontation...there were several statements made that even if Iran had nuclear they did not have the system to fire it...Russia had been withholding it. However, that was released, I think just a couple months ago or so. The fuse,... if you will, that got what we now see in motion.
