A swarm of mostly imperceptible earthquakes continues to shake Yellowstone National Park in what is now the parks second-largest on record.
From the swarms beginnings on Jan. 17 through Monday morning, some 1,620 quakes were recorded by seismologists in the park, which sits atop a gigantic volcanic caldera. The activity is centered around the northwest corner of the Yellowstone caldera, in the back-country between West Yellowstone, Mont., and Old Faithful.

People can laugh, but if the Yellowstone caldera gives way, it is the end of the human race.
How ironic it would be if it happened in 2012.

I have several friends in Cody, which would be obliterated if the thing blew. None of them think it will happen in their lifetime, which is a strange way to phrase that remark. If it happens, your lifetime is at an end.

I wouldn’t want to be in Kansas the next time the Yellowstone caldera erupts.

I think its best to leave as soon when there is a warning from the USGS.

The human race just barely lived through the last super-volcano. I believe people would fair better this time around but it would be awful.

People can laugh, but if the Yellowstone caldera gives way, it is the end of the human race. Absolutely NOT true. Considering it blew up twice in the last 2 millions years and the humans are still around is pretty telling evidence we'll survive it.
CIVILIZATION on the other hand .... yeah you have a point.

Not mentioned in the article from the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory:
"Ground Deformation Summary: Continuous GPS data show that uplift of the Yellowstone Caldera has slowed significantly. Uplift rates for YVO GPS stations are less than 2.5 cm per year. The WLWY station, located in the northeastern part of the caldera, underwent a total of ~23 cm of uplift between mid-2004 and mid-2009. Its record can be found at:
http://pboweb.unavco.org/shared/scripts/stations/?checkkey=WLWY&sec=timeseries_plots×eries=raw
The general uplift and subsidence of the Yellowstone caldera is of scientific importance and will continue to be monitored closely by YVO staff."
