GOP finds loophole in reconciliation ploy [Death of a thousand amendments to ObamaCare]
The Hill ^ | 2/3/10 | Alexander Bolton

As it turns out, Senate Democrats may not be able to force healthcare legislation through the chamber on a simple majority vote.

Republicans say they have found a loophole in the budget reconciliation process that could allow them to offer an indefinite number of amendments.

Though it has never been done, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) says he’s prepared to test the Senate’s stamina to block the Democrats from using the process to expedite changes to the healthcare bill.

Thank you. That is exactly what we should be doing. These types of proactive solutions will go further than all of the other ‘stuff’

Since you live in a state that has routinely voted for Arlen I can see where you might think that

Look at De Mint and Pence and any number of other conservatives. Unless you want to try and elect the likes of Ron Paul everywhere, I suggest you wake up and find out who the good guys really are

I think the pubbies are looking for a loop hole that would allow this to go through but make the pubblies look like innocent victims. Scum! All of them! They ALL must go!

You should call into Mark Levin's show with this drivel. Opinions like this subsitiute for critical thinking these days.

What we need then is a crew of Good, Strong, Patriotic, Americans (not RINOS or Politicians) who are willing to face ridicule, abuse, name-calling, subterfuge, and dirty tricks to get to work on this NOW!

I like DeMint, however, I don't think it'll work.

This is the DEMS we're dealing with. Ain't a rule ever been created that they won't break or change to benefit themselves. So look for them to move to close any loopholes by changing the rules or procedures, whilst the state-controlled media demonizes the Republicans for being obstructionist and using dirty tactics.

That said, we can hope...

I’d like volunteer about 100 amendments for my new Senator from Massachusetts to propose.

I’m not a Senate rules maven but I believe changing the rules in the middle of a session requires more than a simple vote.

They won’t do this - pass “healthcare” in reconciliation. Not in an election year. I think this is all big talk to try to mollify their base whackos, but they’ll never try something this heinous in an election year.

We do spend a lot of time giving (often warranted) barbs to congressional/Senate Republicans, but through this 0bamacare mess, they’ve held together quite well. Yes, there was the little teaser thrown out by Olympia Snowe, but for the most part, they’ve done well.

Not to say the GOPers aren’t deserving of some well-placed criticism, but in THIS case, as a whole they’ve done well and stood strong.

I’m not a Sentate rules maven, either, but have you been watching? Nothing is off-limits to them, the Constitution, Senate rules, nothing. A is not A with these people, it’s whatever they want it to be.

Who’s gonna stop them? The the judicial system? The DOJ?

I cannot believe no states have passed a law about the BC yet. Unreal.

You were saying ...

I cannot believe no states have passed a law about the BC yet. Unreal.

For some reason, it's not "sexy enough" for some conservatives, I think... LOL...

I mean, at least four states tried it last year and at least one that I've heard of is trying something like it again, this year, but beyond that -- this sort of law seems to be "DOA" in the minds of a lot of conservatives.

As I said, it seems to be not sexy enough for a lot of conservatives for some reason.

I just look at it in a strategic and structural sense, in that we should "fix it" anyway, no matter who it would affect.

First, rules do not apply to Dhimmi-rats. Second, the parliamentarian’s rulings are only advisory, Reid could simply ignore the ruling that allows the amendments.

To assist the GOP in this important endeavor, I, the non-Senator from Western NY, rise in favor of the following amendments:

1. The Superbowl moves to Saturday, so that any potential hangover does not interfere with the productivity of American workers on a Monday.

2. The Buffalo Bills are given all draft picks for the next 10 years.

3. Creation of a new Federal holiday in honor of Jim ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly, #12, QB, and master of the hurry up offense.

4. That the USDA modify the food chart to show ‘Flutie Flakes’ breakfast cereal as an essential part of your daily diet.

5. The Department of Homeland Security to replace all staff with members of the Bills offensive line up from the 1990’s Superbowl years. Bruce Smith to be appointed head of DHS, because - hey, have you SEEN that guy?

6. For the FCC to label the phrases ‘wide right’ and ‘consecutive Superbowl losses’ as offensive language not permitted on Television.

7. Bills scoring drive victory song “Shout” to replace the National Anthem.

8. In the interest of furthering leadership in America, human cloning to remain illegal with the exception of head coach Marv Levy.

9. As a part of the Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the jumbo-tron at Ralph Wilson Stadium shall be tripled, beer taps installed at the end of each aisle, and tailgate-ready parking made free to the public. NO roof or related structure shall be permitted.

10. Creation of a Senate Subcommittee on the Buffalo Bills Cheerleading. An oversight and review board of the Buffalo Jills. It is important that these proud American young ladies dancing in the red, white, and blue of our great country are carefully selected and closely monitored. I, the non-senator of WNY offer my personal assistance in this regard.

If states followed their own rules, Sens. McCain and Obama wouldn't have even been on the ballot in Texas.
