Audi Green Police Ads Downright Offensive
Dakota Voice ^ | Feb 8, 2010 | Bob Ellis

I’m sure some idiot at Audi thought these “Green Police” commercials for the Super Bowl would be funny. I found them downright offensive and not the least bit funny.

In the collection of ads below, you see a guy at the store pick “plastic” when the checkout gal asks “paper or plastic” and the Green Police immediately arrest the earth-destroyer for his intended assault on Mother Gaia. (Didn’t these enviro-idiots come up with the plastic bags some 20 years ago to save the earth from all the trees being killed for paper bags?) You also have Green Police digging through people’s trash for batteries, and shining a searchlight into a guy’s kitchen for putting (or not putting–not being a green wacko, I’m not sure which is “proper”) something down his drain. And (oh my) we have evil maniacs being busted for using incandescent light bulbs, plastic water bottles, and having the water too warm in the hot tub. Of course at the end of the commercial, you have the greenie driving an eco-friendly car who is blessed by the Green Police High Priests.

If Audi really meant to point out the idiocy of the “green” movement and its very real threats to freedom…they failed to deliver anything which clues the viewer in to a message that “We think this is nuts.” The commercial is presented with too much seriousness to be taken any other way than as approval of such Gestapo tactics. But if Audi wants to appeal to the real environmental wacko out there, they definitely hit the mark with these commercials.

~snip~

These earth-worshipping morons might have thought they were being cute; maybe they’ve been drinking too much of their own Koolaid and have totally lost touch with reality.

No matter if you thought this was funny or not, it is a chilling vision of our future under a enviromental police state.

They could have made their point with a lighter treatment of the issue. Their ad might well have been written by George Orwell.

That was our reaction, too. It was “there we are soon.” Wouldn’t take an Audi as a gift. Creepy, creepy ad.

What’s also ironic is that greenies and C.A.R.B. would probably ban this car from being sold in California. Environuts hate diesels:

Why would they have to point out “this is nuts” -

anyone with common sense would say “that’s nuts”,
but they’d also say “that’s what the econazis have in mind”.

I got it, and I’m not that far above average in intelligence.

I really don’t understand why the commercial is offensive. The idea of a green police force of course is offensive but these folks were making fun of that. Were you offended by “Springtime for Hitler?”

I think it served as a huge warning.
All this “controversy” is GREAT.

Of course, while I was watching it, I was saying - time to shoot back.

Would you never buy a book from the publisher of 1984 either because it showed a vision you don't like? Crazy.

It was a great commercial. It was genius in its ability to ridicule the greens. And this coming on the heels of Climategate. Wow!

Was the idea that if everybody bought an Audi then that would help the environment so much that there wouldn’t need to be any “green police.” If so they didn’t say. I call the ad a downer despite its name recognition and think it will spur people to the competition, maybe even a bit gas guzzling like Ford trucks.

I have a friend who had to have the engine in his new car rewired because critters crawled up into the engine and made a meal out of the wire casings while we were on vacation, and also proceeded to build a nest and have babies in one of the engine cavities. The repair guy said that these new eco-friendly wire coverings and casings are made from soy products, which these critters love to nibble on, and he is making a mint off of the repairs.

Moronic green people will be the death of us yet.

I’ve never seen a more detrimental (to the company airing it) add in my life. I vowed never to buy an Audi. Never.

Whoever came up with these has no business being in marketing.

Im with Rush on this. Audi score on both sides. THey were clearly making fun of the Green movement and not supporting The Green Police.

Really weird mixed reaction to this ad,
all based on our own individual personal assumptions
on the

MOTIVES OF THE AD MAKERS.

I think Audi tried to split the uprights on this one. One the one hand, giving credence to the Green Police offends us. On the other hand, they mocked the prospect of an arrest over incandescent lighting - one of the Green Movements biggest debacles (the CF Bulb is far more dangerous than the incandescent it supposedly replaces).

So, on balance I liked it.

Wire tie some rat poison in the engine compartment.

I had to do that on my car and it’s a 2000 model.

My guess is that is who they are marketing to ECO-NAZIS.

Pretty stupid move for an Hun Run Company.

I thought Audi was poking fun at the eco-Nazis. Sure made folks talk about the ad :-)

Again, it’s very hard to discern the motives,
and to assume their motives is foolhardy.

Be happy that this is out there waking people up,
even if there are some econuts that WANT this to happen,

other people need to be aware that it is indeed a goal
of the left to do this.
