"And if it's unreasonable to expect would-be "legislators" to know even the Bill of Rights, what on earth SHOULD they know?" Sure it's reasonable to expect that, but the facts on the ground are what they are. Most people (especially younger ones) have not been taught even the basic fundamentals of the Constitution.

No, that means she is uneducated, like a large number of younger people today. If you present the facts, and she refuses to listen, THEN you can say she is "unprincipled".If you listen to the YouTube video, she comes across as a BAD, very BAD listener and sounded like she had already made up her mind, even when challenged by the host on her stand.

She gave the opening speech at the Nashville Tea Party Convention for goodness sake! I don’t think she is a babe in the woods. She thought people were stockpiling guns because they were racist (anti-Obama) and expecting a freakin’ race war! WTF!

Sure it's reasonable to expect that, but the facts on the ground are what they are. Most people (especially younger ones) have not been taught even the basic fundamentals of the Constitution. That's a perfectly sound argument for educating the ignorant masses of the electorate. Evaluating a Congressional candidate is a vastly different proposition.

Yeah, I listened to the tape. But a talk show is NOT the place to have a reasoned discussion. I say again...try reason, then decide. A LOT of people who felt just as strongly as she does have had their minds changed (some of them as a result of being victims of crime, but some not).

Yes, but as I understand it, she started from a point of typical knee-jerk liberalism and has made the journey from there to the Tea Party. Which proves that she is at least somewhat reasonable when presented with facts on the ground. Invite her to a gun club meeting. Let her find out that gun-owners are "just folks".

"Evaluating a Congressional candidate is a vastly different proposition." Quite a few Congressional candidates are just as ignorant (in certain areas) as any recent high-school graduate.

This shouldn’t be a liberal issue or a conservative issue, this is a fundamental issue of privacy. The Government doesn’t have “rights”, the people do, such as the right to privacy. It is no one’s business but my own as to how many guns (if any) I have in my house. A gun is just a piece of wood and metal, the Government doesn’t need to know how much wood or metal I keep.
