KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials say a Tennessee elementary school principal is in critical condition after she and an assistant principal were shot and wounded by a co-worker at their office. The shooting at Inskip Elementary School in Knoxville happened Wednesday afternoon about an hour after all the children were dismissed for a snow day. Forty-eight-year-old Mark Stephen Foster is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Police say Foster was a co-worker, but wouldn't say what his job was. The school's Web site identifies Foster as a fourth-grade teacher. University of Tennessee Medical Center officials said Principal Elisa Luna was in critical condition and Assistant Principal Amy Brace was in stable condition. A school spokeswoman says classes are canceled for the rest of the week.

Damn. I hate snow, too, but....
This can’t be. You’re not allowed to have a gun on school property!
Prayers for the families of these two.
I just spoke with my mom who lives in the general area. Word on the street is that the teacher was upset over his contract.
I think we are at the time of year where school management reviews contracts for next school year...so if this guy had issues or the school was trimming their costs...it may have unhinged the guy. Face it...if true...we are all a bit nervous about our jobs and keeping them now. And this will just trigger more focus on contract reviews for the remainder of the season.
AP headline tommorow:”unexpected”
Prayers for the wounded to recover.
Yeah, shooting a couple of principals is really going to shore up a teaching contract.

My mother went to Inskip circa 1930
And this will just trigger more - I guess that’s the appropriate word to use here.
Well, I am so glad we entrust 85%-90% of our children to people who have had in-service training on contract negotiation. Did this really happen in Tenn., or was it Chicago?
Need to regain control from the union and fire the unqualified and incompetent.
Was watching the local news this afternoon and the shooter is from Clinton. They made a point to emphasize he’d never taught in the Clinton school sstem.
His contract was not going to be renewed at Inskip. He is an older man, 50 or older.
The principal and vice principal he shot are both women. The principal is in critical condition and the VP in stable condition.
i went to Sterchi 63-part of 67. It's really the same neighborhood. Also checking high school year book about the shooter. I may have went to high school with him in another county. Name and age is about right though as the guy I remember was several grades behind me. Not going to say where though. The name is too common for this area. Can be several by his name.
According to one station, the guy has a long history of trouble. His brother’s had an order of protection against him. His neighbors say he walks up and down their road with a gun and a baseball bat yelling at the top of his lungs, etc. etc. He’s a nutcase. What reallly concerns me is how in the world he passed the background check in 2007?!? He has obviously had longstanding problems with the police in Anderson County (Clinton). Knox County schools do a pissy job of background checks. There have been problems before. They always say they don’t have the money to do extensive background checks. The media didn’t seem to have any problems finding this stuff out.
If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you can’t, thank a Teachers Union.
"Bananas" Foster?
Prayers up for the victims & their families.
