Time for Obama to go 'gangsta' on GOP

For me, I'm sick and tired of Democrats having power and being unwilling to use it. I've always respected Republicans when they had power because they were willing to use it and maybe apologize later.

Today, President Obama walked into the White House briefing room and took some questions, and one of them revolved around recess appointments.

He has watched Republicans block many of his appointments, and now he says he made it clear to them that he will "consider" making some when the U.S. Senate goes into recess.

During the Bush Administration, Harry Reid kept the Senate in pro forma session during breaks in order to prevent President Bush from making recess appointments. If the rules allow it, the Republicans should do likewise. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

One problem returning the favor - the Republicans would have to run the Senate in order to do that. Dingy was leader of the Senate when he did the pf sessions.

Perhaps, but I don’t know the rules well enough to be sure. On procedural matters the Senate ordinarily acts by unanimous consent. The Republicans could object to a motion to stand in recess.

PUBs should object to EVERY single “unanimous consent” motion until this insanity stops. That means sitting still for EVERY bill being read out loud; debating EVERY motion to adjorn and demanding countless quorum calls.

For the whole "bring it on" crowd:

Clinton made mincemeat of Gingrich when he decided to "bring it on" over the budget, and Gingrich was A LOT smarter than this crowd.

The President, even this one, has HUGE structural advantages in a scripted public confrontation with Congress, especially with the minority.

I think they should stick with "there's nothing to discuss, let's talk about it in November".

Republicans got things done because they were willing to compromise.

I've heard DEM talking heads say they couldn't understand why Dems have gotten so little through Congress. They ask how Bush was able to get so much legislation done. Easy! He compromised and his policies were popular with grassroots America.
