A Republican gubernatorial candidate said Thursday she has questions about whether the U.S. government was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — a statement she swiftly backed away from and one that drew immediate criticism from her better-known rivals in the race.
Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison dismissed the comments made by Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck Show that there were "some very good arguments" that the U.S. was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
"I don't have all of the evidence there, Glenn," Medina said. "I think some very good questions have been raised. In that regard there's some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there."
Medina later released a statement saying she did not believe the government was involved in the attacks.
"There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11," Medina said in the written statement. "I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way."

So because Medina was incapable of a rational answer to a simple question, it's all the fault of the GOP Establishment.

It is the fundamental premise of progressive foreign policy that the United States government/ military is the pre-eminent source of evil in this world. If she’s bought into that premise to the extent that she believes our government might orchestrate or intentionally allow a terrorist attack on its own citizens ... then she is NOT conservative, and the death of her campaign SHOULD NOT be mourned by conservatives.
Move on ... nothing to see here but the corpse of a liberal campaign that fooled a few conservatives for a little while.

In 2008, Ron Paul defeated Friendswood city councilman Chris Peden in the GOP primary for his congressional seat, obtaining over 70 percent of the vote.
In the general election, Paul won his eleventh term as a Republican.

Well, if someone asked me if I thought the US Gov. was involved in 9/11, it would take me less than a nano second to reply NO! To me that is not a “No comment” kind of question.
Unacceptable thinking? My, you would think the PC thought police were involved. And here on FR, no less. You do realize that one of the advantages of a Free Republic is the freedom to question authority, right? You assume that even being open to blaming the government for intentional involvement in 9/11 is proof of unfitness for office, but the whole Tea Party movement is predicated on blaming the current government for intentionally racking up destructive amounts of debt and wresting control of the government from the hands of the people to the lone grip of the Marxists. Where is the fundamental difference? Isn’t a deep distrust of government the basis of constitutional protections, FROM government? Weren’t the founders King-George-Wants-to-Enslave-Us-with-Taxes truthers?
As for whether our government is capable of such horrors, I have belabored this on other threads and I bring it up again here: Pearl Harbor was a synthesis of Japanese and FDR administration actions. My dad was in the code room. I am fully convinced, based on his testimony, in combination with many corroborating facts, we did know, and we did intentionally send innocent Americans to their death on December 7, 1941, so that FDR would be able to keep his promise to Churchill to enter the war, for the “greater good.” I don’t like it. I wish it wasn’t so. But the evidence available to me strongly supports it. So please spare me the mind-control pabulum that we cannot at least question whether evil might flow from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Disclaimer: I do not find the arguments for 9/11 as an inside job plausible, and I have no affiliation with anything libertarian, especially Ron Paul. I belong to the Illinois Constitution Party, and as such retain the right to avoid getting into lockstep with anybody’s group-think.

Wow. Then I guess those few thousand years we’ve spent figuring out what conservative values are just don’t count. Because according to you, being “conservative” now is redefined to mean, “Yes, I blindly believe and accept as holy and righteous all that is done by my government.” Well shucks, I’ve got a lot of editing to do. All this time I thought being conservative meant being for the respect of the inalienable individual rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as enshrined in our Declaration and embodied in our Constitution. Who’d have thought that today I’d wake up to learn that being pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-second amendment, pro-small/focused/constitutional government, pro-free market, pro-strong defense, pro-immigration law enforcement, pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, pro-parental rights, etc. etc. and whatever else has heretofore been mistakenly associated with being conservative, who’d have thought I’d find out that none of that has anything to do with being conservative, that really, thanks to you, we now know it all revolves on a single point - do I trust my government implicitly and without question. Even though I’m supporting Rick, I think it was overblown. I read this thread and start to understand why it’s always so hard for conservatives to win. I’m not supporting her, but I’m not going to help drag her through the mud for one confused answer. She has responded.
Oh, please, spare me the thought police crap. Unacceptable thinking merely means she has forfeited a shot at being elected governor. She can think and say whatever the heck she wants, but saying she's not sure if the U.S. blew up the Twin Towers is unacceptable if she wants my vote.

Medina has disqualified herself. You can support her but if you do so by DENYING who she is, you are unwise. We need good candidates, not just offbeat candidates.
I feel bad for all the Medina-bits that constantly post comments to newspaper articles, here and everywhere else her name is mentioned. She is more than toast...
With RINO's like Gov Goodhair and KBH on the ballot, it's not hard to be seen as the most conservative.
