Finally! About 5 years ago I took Avandia for 4 or 5 months and got progressively sicker each day. Swelling, muscle aches, fatigue, palpitations, etc. Tried to tell my doctor, but he didn’t think it could be the med. I even emailed the FDA, etc. about it, but never received a reply. Finally stopped taking it myself and was soon back to normal. Terrible drug for Type 2 diabetes

This is smack in the seat of my wheelhouse. I've been diabetic for over 20 years. I've had 8 heart surgeries in the last 7 years. I'm fairly convinced that drugs are very tricky in people like me. I challenge my MD on any "fad" change they propose. The least is the best, in my opinion.
Just my two pennies.

about 500 heart attacks and 300 cases of heart failure would be averted every month because Avandia can hurt the heart. Those are incredible statistics, and it would be remarkable if they didn't show up during the various trial stage. Or if they did, it's damning that they were not reported.
This is a very serious failure of the system.

I wouldn’t get to hyped up over this. If you look past the media and look at the science....avandia appears to be a safe drug when used properly. 7 long term studies conducted by the likes of the NIH, VA, ADA and others have all found the CV risk to be similar to that of the 1st line generics prescribed by almost all doctors.
Of course if you are one of those who thinks the press doesn’t take things out of context........
