On the list of insane public policy moves we have come to expect from the current administration, Cap and Tax, Obamacare and Union Card Check, a fourth has garnered relatively little attention, although the implications for all Americans may be among the most far-reaching. The recurring theme is centralized control.

On Monday, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will host a rare Congressional “Field Hearing“. A Congressional delegation will venture out of the beltway and actually devote time to a problem in our country. Better yet, they will be listening to real citizens. Sort of.

At issue is what residents are calling a government-made drought in the Central and San Joaquin Valleys of California. Legal and environmental regulations in the Endangered Species Act has resulted in the diversion of 200 billion gallons of water from the agricultural heartland of California into the Ocean. According to California farmer Rose Corona,

Health care is a right but WATER, something we need every single day, is a privilege?

Eating isn’t a right either, it’s a priviledge.

“Water its not a right its a privilege”

Hey, they've already proven that in Texas. We now have a tax on our private water wells in our county in Central Texas. Sure, it's a "tiny" FEE for now (just hang on, that'll change too) but already they are gearing up to put meters on our wells. Shore are partner, good ol' Texas, led by good ol' Socialists.

Why heck y'all, they say they're CONSERVATIVES too, kinda like CPAC folks, y'know?

Yep, forget those rights fellas, your butts belong to the state.

Water its not a right its a privilege

No. Water is property and California wouldn't be having these problems if they treated it as such. Instead they have a classic tragedy of the commons situation.

You mean all those western “Water Rights” wars of 150 years ago was really over Privileges?

Don’t shares of water rights mean anything to this administration?

No different from taxes on private oil and gas wells. I don't agree with those taxes either.

So water is not a right but universal government-run health care is?

What a whacked-out society we have.

So, maybe when people suffer dehydration because water is not a right, they can go to the hospital where they can have some water that the hospital will charge taxpayers $250/oz for. Smarrrrrt!

Wish Arnold would grow a pair and have the CA Nat. Guard go turn on the pumps. And essentially “dare” the Federal Gov’t to turn them off.

Water is a privilege and healthcare/abortions are rights.

Another example of the fallacy of liberal/ progressive thought.

They all think they will live like royalty.

That's the key. Liberal elites *know* they are creating misery for everyone. They don't care because, as elites, they surely won't be held to the rules they make up for everyone else. That's why they are so keen on mass transit - because they want to roads clear for themselves. Us commoners simply clog up their day so they decree that you and I can't have cheap gasoline or the cars we want. But it doesn't apply to the lords, only the serfs.
