Obama to California 'Water, Its Not a Right its a Privilege' [Not a Quote from Obama]

On the list of insane public policy moves we have come to expect from the current administration, Cap and Tax, Obamacare and Union Card Check, a fourth has garnered relatively little attention, although the implications for all Americans may be among the most far-reaching. The recurring theme is centralized control.

On Monday, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will host a rare Congressional “Field Hearing“. A Congressional delegation will venture out of the beltway and actually devote time to a problem in our country. Better yet, they will be listening to real citizens. Sort of.

At issue is what residents are calling a government-made drought in the Central and San Joaquin Valleys of California. Legal and environmental regulations in the Endangered Species Act has resulted in the diversion of 200 billion gallons of water from the agricultural heartland of California into the Ocean. According to California farmer Rose Corona,

Differences in West & East US laws about water
LImitation of water in the West US

Whether or not the delta smelt is native (1 guy cites gov booklet says it’s not)

It’s eaten by introduced species

Sewage being dumped by cities into delta

Delta is manmade (& that brings up the question: Did the D Smelt exist in the salty marshes prior to manmade delta?)

People from other states relating similar takeovers of farmslands in other parts of the country

Whether it’s plot to starve out farmers
for windfarms.

I don’t think windfarms. I think plot is to takeover small farms in favor of giant agri-business. See the Food Modernization Act which is being implemented.

If they starve out the (conservative) central valley farmers my bet is giant agri business will get the land.

Maybe they should pay for pulling that pump and replacing it every 10 yrs or so....if this fee was cleared by someone who has to pay for their own ‘services’ just to get to the water then that person needs to go. My guess is most were people who have never had anything but city services and figure that all they pay is that little water fee so why shouldn’t you? UGH. Hopefully they won’t come up with this idea around here, my water bill is already high enough.

Hey, they've already proven that in Texas. We now have a tax on our private water wells in our county in Central Texas. Sure, it's a "tiny" FEE for now (just hang on, that'll change too) but already they are gearing up to put meters on our wells. Shore are partner, good ol' Texas, led by good ol' Socialists.

Where are you at? They haven't done that in Bandera.

Terrorists should have all the water they want - in the form of waterboarding. As in , “Hi Mohammed, it is my PRIVILEGE to present you with this water today. How are the folks back in Yemen?”

Water is property and California laws give the 'property' owner the right to sell the 'property' to the highest bidder, as any good California 30+ year career water salesman will tell you. And even the governator can't change that. (or so he told Hannity).

What is lost on people like you’re talking about (they pay a fee so we should too attitude) is that everytime you service a well to either repair/replace something it will be about $1,500 average.

I’ve pulled this well twice in 25 yrs., keep in mind I’m 450 ft. deep, replaced all tubing and wire and pump on one job, just pump and wire on another (lightning strike) and it was about 2,500 bucks on the “big one”.

And so the water district is going to conserve water for us by taxing, oh yeah, right. But they now have an office and a secretary, golly gee... I suggested exactly what you said about replacement on their dime every 10 yrs....umm-hmmmm.

Chris,

No problem. Here goes my explanation from my direct experience growing up on my father’s farm.

The river we irrigate from is called the Purgatory, a small river tributory to the Arkansas river. The headwaters of this small river originate from the mountain streams of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

There are probably 20 ditches that derive their water from the purgatory at various points as it flows towards the southwest out of the mountains towards E. Colorado.

The priority and the amount of the water that may be taken out of the river is based on filing rights. For example, my family had rights on a ditch called the Lopez that filed in 1850. So, owning land that has high priority water rights ensures that the owner obtains his/her share of water based upon the current flowrate coming out of the mountains before somebody else who has lower filing rights. The absolute amount that a farmer receives is also based upon how many “shares” that he/she owns on a particular ditch.

The low priority ditches are at the mercy of how much water is flowing. If it is a poor snowpack, these ditch owners will likely run out of water during the growing season.

Each ditch employs a person called a ditch rider who drives the ditch daily and adjusts the “box” or measuring weir (sp)of each water holder according to the water coming down the river. Typically, each box is padlocked. Overall, there is a water commissioner who instructs each ditch rider the total amount of water that each ditch along the river may receive at their main water box entrances.

When it rains on a regular basis, everybody gets along fine (for the most part). When it gets dry, especially during peak growing season, everybody keeps an eye out for how much water is flowing in each ditch. When it gets dry, some people will steal water. Hence, my earlier post of people fighting and dying over water.

This is a very broad description of what goes on in SE Colorado. I hope this helps.

MFO

Actually, since water is even more a “green house gas” than CO2, then water is a pollutant. Must be regulated and controlled, no?

Yes. I am tired of water getting mixed in with my diet of toxic wastes and petroleum derivatives.

But the morons of this state will just continue to vote Democrat, and to re-elect the pimp Obama and his prostitutes like Barbara Boxer—no questions asked.

And why wouldn't they?

The Democratic Party Leaders have accumulated more than their fair share of wealth. They use the justice system as a way to live 'above the law'. Anybody gets in their way, and they just have them 'smashed'.

A liberal's wet dream. Wouldn't you vote for someone was every thing you aspire to be?

It's like Pharoah telling the slaves to make brick without straw.

WHILST taking away their backhoes, giving them a shovel, and making them pay for the downgrade.

Folks we really need to vote ALL Democrats out of office

So, we have to vote 'out' those who have stayed in power by illegal manipulation of the voting process?

The pulling the pump is very fresh in my mind at this time cause we just did it about 5 months ago, and yes this time we had to replace all the pipe going down and it was about as far as what you had to put in when you did so....plus we lowered the thing. So we should be good to go for quite a few years now.
