Top US Marine rejects Obama plan to repeal gay ban
AFP, Brietbart ^ | 2/25/10

Posted on 02/25/2010 6:04:49 PM PST by Mr. Jazzy

The head of the US Marines said on Thursday he opposed ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military, the first top officer to break openly with President Barack Obama over the issue.

General James Conway told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he disagreed with Obama's plan to repeal the ban.

"My best military advice to this committee, to the (defense) secretary, and to the president would be to keep the law such as it is."

Thanks for the picture of Marine General James Conway. As much as we respect the other branches of our US armed services, when you really need a tough job done right now, send in the Marines!

Gen. Conway has now joined the pantheon of Marine heroes dating back through our history.

If you had, you would know that units are tightly knit and it is imperative that all members of the team be comfortable with each other.

Issues of sexuality aside, this just isn't true. Serving in the military requires team members to trust in each other's professionalism and competence. "Comfort" simply isn't necessary.

Inherent in this is the belief by the group that the rest are just like you and are.

This is completely wrong. The military brings together Americans from every demographic--men and women; white, black, latino, Pacific islander, southwest Asian; Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, Mormon, atheist; people from other countries like Brits and Africans; patriots and pragmatists; cat people and dog people. Military life forces service members to get along with people that aren't just like them. Most service members are pretty good at that, because they are professionals. The ones that aren't professionals join little cliques and complain about the "Canadians."

I’d love to get dissenting comments on the following opinion...especially because I’ve never had the priviledge to serve.

Sexuality is a behavior. It is NOT an identity. I believe a professional military person should serve as such. Sexual orientation is irrelevant. During enlistment and ‘basic’, make it clear that that the action of serving your country has no care, prejudice, or interest in the boring stories of private sexuality.

“Don’t ask/Don’t tell” was ascribed to the gay community. Make it across the board that comments about others’ personal lives are unbecoming of a professional service person - and the revalation of such, in line of shift duty is also unnecessary, uncalled for, and otherwise unprofessional.

This will further the education of both gay and straight “kids” in growing up and finding an identity beyond SEX as well as further focus them on killing the enemy and getting the hell out of there, safely and as swiftly as possible.

Re your post 56, I looked at it again and I came to the same conclusion, he was saying what’s the big deal about homosexuals being openly about their sexual “appetites” and I was pointing out that the military does not wish that orientation known nor practiced in its ranks for the reasons I outlined.

As regards your statement “What’s wrong with shutting up and just serving your country?” well, that’s the current policy, don’t ask, don’t tell (accent on “don’t tell”).

GOOD TIMES 30

Bout damn time someone stood up to the goofballs who have absolutely NO understanding of what the military’s mission is. It’s job is to defend this country and it’s interests, not to be a playtoy of the socialist liberals to experiment.
Those Marines train to fight the worst of the worst. They don’t need distractions.

Semper Fi big time.
Good night Uncle Chesty.

“Comfort” simply isn’t necessary.”

Sorry, but that’s not true, it is necessary. Having served in the military, I know from my own experience that professionalism and competence is not enough; one must feel comfortable with other members of the team.

As regards your observation about this nice polygot of various types of individuals being seamlessly molded into one big happy unit, there is an element of truth in that individualism is subsumed to the needs of the unit, but you can be sure that cliques based on color, ethnicity and the like remain. It would be countertuitive if this didn’t occur.

Did you not notice the existence of cliques in your military experience?

Re your post 59, in which you say that you have no problem with homosexuals serving openly in the military, because it’s no big deal about the “openly” part.

Wrong, sir. Have you not noticed how homosexuals practice “in your face” objections to those who disapprove of their flaunting their sexual way of life? It seems to be innate in them once conventional mores are swept aside for their benefit.

oBama is the co-mandoh in chump.
No worries.
Disregard whatever he says for the next days until he is hopefully impeached.

Sorry folks; it didn't work out for oBama or ACORN.

Just the way it goes....

It was also the USMC leadership during the Clinton Regime that stood up and flat out refused to play along with the “feminization” and “gender norming” of the military.

We need to mobilize against Joe Lieberman, even if it means getting a real dem in his office. He is pushing the gay agenda, he is so far off base as to be ridiculous. He is telling a Marine General, a combat veteran a Marines, Marine that he does not know what he is talking about. He tries to claim getting rid of 13,000 gays in 15 years has hurt readiness. How stupid does he think we are. The military loses more people than that a year because they are not compatible to military life. Can anyone explain to me how rimming will improve the readiness of the military? I will send money to anyone opposing Lieberman!

AIDS, chlamydia and syphilis are epidemic in the gay community. 66% of all new case are gay men according to the CDC. Imagine the costs to military medicine, because they will have to require testing for all STDs as part of readiness.
