Palin Favorite Paul Ryan Rules Out 2012 Run For President
ABC News ^ | Feb. 9. 2010 | Teddy Davis

Rep. Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican who has recently been under attack by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and lavished with praise by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), is ruling out a 2012 run for president.

Over the weekend, Ryan was singled out for praise by Palin during her interview with “Fox News Sunday.”

"“[W]e have some strong -- some young Turks in this party,” said Palin. “Paul Ryan -- I’m very impressed with Paul Ryan. . . . He’s good. Man, he is sharp. He is smart, articulate. And he is passionate about these commonsense solutions that America has got to adopt to get us on the right road.”

"I'll give you as Shermanesque a quote as I can," said Ryan. "I am not going to run for president. I'm just not going to do it. My head's not that big, and my kids are too small.”

Whether he runs or not, it’s good to know that we have some new people coming up in leadership roles and are building a credible bench so we don’t have to rely on also-rans at presidential election time.

Why won’t he run against Feingold? Or does he think Tommy Thompson will take that role?
........................................................

I don’t see the big advantage of taking a good Representative out of the House and put him in the Senate. Seems to me Conservatives need to add to the Congressional count.

Let Tommy Thompson handle Feingold.

He has sounded great everytime I have seen him on tv. Definitely someone to encourage!

However.........It seems to me everytime someone gets a clip on tv or in the news, it’s like, President 2012!!!! Yee Haw!!
It is this jumping on the bandwagon and soundbites that got us Obama. We need to be patient and dig deeper than a YouTube video.

As I said, I really like him, I like McCotter, we NEED this new conservative blood in the legislative branch....they after all write the laws.

I would love for him to run in 2012 or at a later time. He isn’t even 40 yet, so he’s got lots of time. This is the exact type of person we NEED in the White House. Strong intellect, confident and great communications skills....and conservative.

I think Ryan as VP would be intriguing. It would be great to have his face and ideas out there, but also keep him in the legislative body (Senate).

I don’t think we want top lose him to the Senate to be a low ranking guy when we could retake the House and he will quite likely be the head of Way and Means Committee.

Your question on THompson is one we all want answered at this point...I’d prefer Neumann bow out of guv race and run against Feingold.

I understand his concern about taking on such a campaign and job with small children.

But he’d make a great vice-president! After all, we have the current Veep’s word that he doesn’t have to do anything. Plenty of time to play with the kids.

I can understand him not wanting to take on such a big job when his children are small.

But he’d make a great Vice President! After all, the current Veep told us just yesterday that he doesn’t do anything. Plenty of time to play with the kids. ;-)

I’d love him being a mastermind behind the scenes - he would make a great VP and then Pres :)

Policy smarts does not always equate with political/executive smarts—but no doubt, people like him NEED to move up the ranks in D.C.

I wonder who he’d endorse for President. (if he does at all during the primaries.) I will be very surprised if he has a high opinion of Mitt Romneycare.

“You can bet the 0bama/left/media axis is already going through Ryan’s trash and kindergarten records to find smearing material.”

You can take that to the bank. If they don’t find anything they will have the New York Times and the rest of the msm make something up.

Right and being a policy wonk and good legislator does not necessarily translate into executive abilities and political acumen. I wonder what kind of a campaign he’d run.

Regardless, we need more people like him filling up the ranks in Congress.

Yeah you're right...and we're also forgetting how much of an IMPACT one can have "without being the President" (if not more.) The Republican majority in Congress under Clinton accomplished quite a bit.

And as I keep saying, being savvy as a legislator and policy wonk does not necessarily mean you'd make a good Commander in Chief.
