Posted on 03/05/2010 12:29:12 PM PST by Gabrial
Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison for taking some $235,000 in bribes in return for lucrative bond work.
U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler imposed the sentence on Langford, 63, who told the court, "I am sorry all this has occurred."

Whatever happened to the black democrat politician who stashed money in his freezer and had the National Guard drive him to pick it up during Katrina?? I don’t remember hearing the outcome.
Not a word about his party affiliation. But they mentioned that of his accomplices;
“But investment banker Bill Blount pleaded guilty to making the payments, and lobbyist Al LaPierre admitted being the middleman. Mr. Blount, the former state Democratic Party chairman, last week was sentenced to more than four years in prison. Mr. LaPierre, the former executive director of the state Democratic Party, got four years. Mr. Blount also was ordered to pay $1 million to the government, and LaPierre $470,000.”””
Illustrative, and typical, liberal apology: No hint of personal accountability.
The investigation, arrest, trial, conviction and sentencing are simply "occurrences", as if they could happen to anyone, out of the blue. As if his own choices had nothing at all to do with his conviction.
Building your house on the shifting sand of situational ethics is still a Bad Idea.
Good. I am not going crazy then. I had to look it up. Heaven forbid if AP actually reported it.
No mention of party in title, subtitle, first sentence or first paragraph..therefore its a democrat.
Maybe they can all bunk together in the big house.
Remember this guy?
...drug addiction, drug bust, jail time, failure to file income taxes, marital infidelity, an arrest for alleged stalking, sex addiction...
Happy to help. :-)
IMHO, the whole pay to play thing is corrupt and should be outlawed.
Definite Alabama ping.
Langford is a black, Obama supporting, liberal, taxing, spend other people’s money, DIMOCRAT! For those who asked.
Langford, a Democrat
Save a bunk for Blago!
Ex-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich Re-Indicted (Update2)
February 04, 2010, 5:08 PM EST
By Joe Schneider and Andrew M. Harris
Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) — Former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office for abusing his power, was re-indicted today on corruption charges by a federal grand jury in Chicago.
Blagojevich faces eight NEW criminal charges, including racketeering and bribery, bringing the total number of charges to 24. Each of the most serious charges carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Don’t forget to save a bunk for JOHN EDWARDS too!
Dang, pretty soon they will have a soccer team!
I know he’s scum, but is there something pending, legally? Or is it just a matter of time? LOL!
Lost in the Langford trial is the 800 pound gorilla in the room: the Sewer Project.
Langford is going to jail for funneling county bond contracts to his friends Blount/LaPierre, who rewarded Langford in various ways.
However, why were those bonds needed? The infamous Jefferson County Sewer disaster. A corrupt judge ordered JeffCo to build a $3 Billion sewer replacement system.
The sewer scam, like the light rail scam before it (and the sports stadium scam invented later), is making its way from city to city across the U.S.
Environmental groups are bought off, raise a stink about old sewer systems, and corrupt judges are ordering new sewers built if the elections to build the sewers fail.
Well, Jefferson County never voted to build a new sewer system.
Moreover, Jefferson County doesn’t have the population base to repay a $3 Billion sewer system. To get around this last obstacle, County Commissioners used Auction Rate bonds that offered low intial interest rates and balloon funding. You know: the sub-prime adjustable mortgages of the Muni-Bond market.
Langford was a commissioner back then, and he pushed for his friends to get those auction rate bond execution contracts. Now he’ll get 15 years for steering those bonds through his friends.
But no one has been punished for forcing the new Sewer system itself onto Jefferson County, even though the residents failed to vote for it. There’s the crime.
And it’s coming to more cities/counties near you, next.
Buh buh Larry, next up his idol Daley -g-
How did he think he'd get away with it?
That was William Jefferson, I think he actually did spent some time in jail
Report: Edwards certain to be indicted
John Edwards is on the verge of being indicted by a federal grand jury, the National Enquirer is reporting.
The supermarket tabloid quotes a source close to the investigation as saying: The amount of work the grand jury has done is extensive. Its certain John is going to be indicted.
The disgraced presidential contender is under investigation for possible campaign violations related to payments to his ex-mistress Rielle Hunter
Andrew Young was on Oprah to talk about his book “The Politician” about his life and the lies of John Edwards, and Oprah asked about the sex tape.
Young’s wife told Oprah that the sex tape was her security, and implied that it showed John Edwards performing oral sex on Rielle Hunter.
When Oprah asked what was on the tape, Andrew wouldn’t say what the tape showed, but his wife Cheri piped up.
“I won’t give any fine details, but I’ll tell you yes, he is naked. He is performing sexual acts. The woman is holding the camera. He is aware he is being tape.”
Oprah remarked, “I thought: ‘you have got to be out of your mind to be running for the presidency of the United States and have someone film you having sex.’ Out of your MIND.”
Cheri later added, “That sex tape was my security... At least I had something to prove what had happened.”
Oooooooo! Sweeeeeeeeeeet! Thanks! :)
Who did he tick off?
Good news from Alabama. Hey, he told the judge that he’s sorry he got caught. Thanks Gabrial.
A decreasing number of AL voters adhere to “democracy”, but isn’t another liberal black said to be a credible candidate for governor in 2010?
People in NC will understand, but I don’t think he wants to return to the Senate.
Artur Genestre Davis (born October 9, 1967) is an American politician who has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 2003, representing Alabama’s 7th congressional district.
After working as an intern at the Southern Poverty Law Center and then as a civil rights lawyer, he served as an assistant United States Attorney.
Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus
As a freshman, he led the successful fight to reverse funding cuts for minority land grant colleges including Tuskegee University. As a second term member, Congressman Davis won a floor fight to restore funding to the HOPE VI program for renovating public housing
After months of speculation, Davis announced on February 6, 2009 his candidacy for Governor of Alabama in 2010. His opponent in the Democratic primary is Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks.

This is Alabama. Hes not credible and neither is Les Phillip. I know it will anger any supporters Les has on here but the truth is the truth.
If Democrats are to lose the legislature this year theyre losing it for one reason and one reason alone and we all know what it is. Thats why theyre trying so hard to make national issues irrelevant this year and its why Bedford pushed through that gun bill in the Senate
Larry Langford, Jeremiah Wright, Ray Nagin, Barack Obama, Kwame Kilpatrick, Charles Rangel, Marion Berry, Tiger Woods, Al Sharpton, Sheila Dixon, Spike Lee and OJ Simpson all walk into a bar together...
They’ve run both the Light rail scam and the sewer project scam on Portland, Oregon, and taxpayers in the tri-county metropolitan area. They pushed and pushed unsuccessfully on the stadium project (Portland has neither a pro football nor ML baseball team), but they really did not have to, since they pulled the Light Rail scam not once, not twice, not three times, or even four
They have crammed it down the throats of unwilling taxpaying voters SIX times!!
First was an eastside only line twenty plus years ago, then later of course they had to have one for the westside (tunneled through over a mile of solid rock at budget-breaking cost) since after all, the west side had the worse traffic congestion problem, what with the Nike and Intel campuses located out there...
Then it was a “spur” line of “just a few miles” to service the PDX airport. A think tank did a feasibility study that proved it would have been cheaper to have 10 passenger stretch limousines making that loop 24/7/265 including all vehicle maintenance and replacement costs, a driver salaried at $20/hour with full health insurance and pension benefits, IRA etc.
After that, they pressed for an extension from the “Rose quarter/convention center area into the North Portland “hood”...
and an extension from the airport/gateway interchange along the I-205 corridor, to the Clackamas Mall, and on to the (protesting, unwilling) Portland suburb of Milwaukie.
and an extension of the North Portland line across the Columbia river into downtown Vancouver, Washington - again over the ignored protests of Vancouver voters...
And the people in government cannot seem to figure out why (on top of the socialized medicine Oregon Health Plan) the state is going broke on the heels of tax increase after jobs/growth-stifling tax increase.
They could actually, but they would never admit it.
He voted with the Republicans on the BK Reform act, which made him tops in their books.
But the system finally caught up with him and he is now a guest in the Graybar Hotel....
I can just see de Mayor saying that with malicious grin, palm outward, and pinky extended toward corner of mouth.
